Recently I had engine trouble with my vehicle and was 2011 miles over my warranty, so took it to service department and they called and said rings are bad. I was understanding and when I got to the service desk I asked for the compression check and leak down results. They had not done anything and said well we know that's what's wrong! I simply stated that I am not paying $95 for a guess without any paperwork to prove it was the root cause so if needed I could take to my own personal mechanic. Guy said, "Hell i'll just call service manager and you can speak to him!! That's when I hit the ol record button to make sure I am covered in case of any further issues... Their answers in this vid will blow your mind..emoEnforce

Man, that does not sound good. So if I understood that right you are being charged $95.00 for a 30 year experienced mechanic to stand there, look at your engine and guess what is wrong with it? They didn't tell you anything you did not already know but gave you a guess on what it was. emoScratch I don't think I would be too happy with that either. Then if they get into it and find it was not the rings then they would charge for that also? Then to actually fix something there would be a charge for that also. I feel in your case those prices should have been talked about right up front. I bet you would have left if you had been told that my guy can look at it and guess what is wrong with it for $95.00 bucks. But if he starts to actually do something to find out what is wrong with it that would be a lot more. emoHoppingmad Jmax

Take it to Hyde's Automotive, they have never charged me to give me their opinion. emoThumbsup

P.S. If you want to throw another $95.00 dollars away come by my house and I will be glad to look at your engine and guess as well. I could use an extra $95.00 bucks. emoRolleyes

It ain't the rings Heath! The bearings are worn out in the flux capacitor. I'll pm you and address to send my check to! lol That's just
R E D iculous!

A stuck or clogged pcv valve will make oil come out of the dipstick too.
Send me my $85. (I am giving a Christmas special)

Im sure a new engine will fix it and I've never seen it. I know that will solve your problem. So im thinking thats got to be worth a $100.00. Good job exposing fraud!

WLG took care of me and unfortunately I do have to replace the engine, but not for rings. I have pits in the cylinder wall on #3. And his diagnosis was free, and included compression check, leak down and scope of the cylinder WITH PICS!!!

I would take those results up to gray and try to get my money back. That really sucks man. I lost a tranny in my 2002 Tacoma when it was 160 miles over warranty and I was stuck in Columbus ohio. that tranny cost me right at $5000. I was not happy and was stuck in a hotel room for 10 days b/c they sent the wrong tranny the first time they shipped it.

What kind of vehicle was this on? Pitted cylinder walls would show similar results as bad rings.
But yeah-I'd shove that proper diagnosis in their face and tell them $95 can buy you a lot of bad advertiseing if they don't refund it.
A BBB complaint wouldn't hurt either.

thanks for the heads up, I now know not to take my truck or car to Gray Epperson and will give the link of the video to anyone that is considering them.

You being in S. Pittsburgh, I would take mine to the Pit Stop. In fact, i have , many times. Quinton has always been straight up with me, and very reasonable on labor and parts. I have my son's vehicle there now.
