Went down this am with a friend I work with. He had fished the lake many times in the past but hadn't been on it in a while. I of course had never seen it so I was very excited. We went in later then we should have and decided to put in at Mud Creek around 9:00am. Mud Creek was PACKED. I think we counted 20+ boats that were all in view at one point, and heard form others that 50+ were all back in there. We just decided to jump right in and find a hole for ourselves. Chris (my friend) started it off with a nice keeper on a red trap around 9:30 and that was it till we got back into the creek a ways. All at once the wind picked up and the bite came on pretty quick. I had my first keeper on a jerk bait, then right behind me Chris had two (one keeper) and his son had one (just under). Chris's son had a nice fish on but lost it at the boat, and that is when we messed up. We should have turned around and went back down the bank, but we kept going and a boat that past us running back in the other direction caught 5-6 all keepers all while we just watched. emoBang So we turned around and went back behind them but by then it was over. We stayed back in that area the rest of the time. About an hour later once again the wind picked up and it was on again. A couple of small keepers then it got fun. I got a 4+ on a silver/blue trap on a custom rod by AL (it's first) and that got me feeling pretty good. about 5 minutes after that Chris got a 5+ on a red trap. fished around for a while but nothing else of keeper size. Did see a boat next to us land a good 6-7lb. So we had 9 in the boat and 6 keepers we my 4+ and his 5+... It might not had been the trip I had dreamed about but I was very happy. I just knew at any time that monster was going to jump on. I will go back I PROMISE! Also just in case your wondering by the picture (if I can figure out how to do that on here) my buddy Chris is a amputee. He fishes with his prosthetic arm (left side above elbow) and out fished me with ease today. gotta respect that! BTW AL I love the rod. thank you so much!!!!

the picture would have looked really good if you had been kissing the fish....and I am glad you enjoyed the rod. It was pretty even if I say so. Big G is a great place to fish. Wish you had told me and I might have been able to put you on some fish elsewhere...lots of good places to fish down there. What was the water temp and how deep??? FA

Great report Roba. Nice to see that ya'll got on some decent fish and had a good time. Good to see your partner is enjoying life also! That is an accomplishment in itself! Thanks for the report and hope you get that whopper you are looking for.

Great report. The place is just amazing , especially this time of year and these weather conditions. Your friend is a very inspirational fella. Glad your first time on the lake was a success. emoThumbsup emoThumbsup

Roba, fantastic fish! It sounds like you found a much better guide than me. I remember when we went, we didn't catch much. Maybe next time we'll do better when we go.

We saw you too Jumper but because we had never met I didn't know you were CFFer's either till I saw the sticker on the back of the truck. I said to Chris as we pulled off that if I had seen that sooner I would have went over and said hi. As for the water temp Al I don't know because Chris does not have a temp gauge on his boat. But I would say low 50's. We stayed in about 2'-5' of water all day, and all the fish were caught in under 3'. Chris knows allot of other places to fish too and we did think about checking other places but everything we had heard about the big G right now is that we need to stay in that area so we did. besides 50 other boats felt the same way for some reason.. LOL Chris is pretty amazeing.. You should see the deer he has taken too... Nothing wrong with the guide Dogg. I would go back out fishing with you again anyday. And next time we will fill the boat up!
