this is a late post, but i guess later than never. i hunt in cass county ill every year and have not taken anything in the past 3 years due to being to small or to far of a shot with a bow. but this year was a little different my hunt started on the 7th of november and lasted 7 days. i got there on the 4th and done a couple days of scouting, found some good scrapes and rubs in several areas and finally decided on one place that had three draws coming out of a creek bottom into the back of a clover field. hung my stand and started the first morning hunt with a bang, had two nice 8 pointers come by after day break and a small 6 point come by about one hour later. then three 4 pointers come by around noon, they looked like they were tied together they were so close to one another. next day was almost a repeat except for the 4 pointers, finally seen my first doe about 80 yards away at the end of one of those draws coming toward me. the wind was swirling so i was hoping she would not bust me but i hunt pretty high up, as she started toward me i noticed movement behind her and it was the biggest main frame 8 pointer with a few stickers here and there that i have seen in the woods. they came in at 27 yards and i totally screwed up, and put a 20 yard pin on him and (you guessed it missed). seen more deer during the rest of the hunt but nothing compared to him. but the last day of the morning it was windy and sleeting/snowing had seen some deer but to far for a shoot. around 9:30 this 8 point come slipping in from my left about 15 yards he was behind some trees so i drawed. when he stepped out i pulled the trigger. i thought he was a better deer but he had been fighting and broke some tines off. still he will be on the wall with the rest.
