With the Holiday season in full swing and not much free time in our schedules, my wife and I spent an afternoon in the deer stand together. I took my 10 year old daughter Friday evening to a shooting house over a food plot and My best friend took his 13 year old to the top of the farm to hunt a big green field that is notorious for rutting activity this time of year. Jon and Bryant were covered up most of the evening seeing 5 different bucks chasing does. After seeing two really good shooters, Jon allowed Bryant to take a good 7 pointer that came running in on them after Jon Grunted several times. 20 minutes after Bryant shot his deer, A wide rack 6 pointer stepped into my Daughter's shooting lane. She killed her first deer when she was 6. She is 10 now, but BUCK FEVER consumed her. I tried to calm her down, but the longer she took the worse she got. She took the shot at 75 yds and it was a clean miss. She fell apart. The walk of shame back to the house was pitiful. I tried to explain to her that it happens to seasoned hunters and it would happen in due time.

I offered to take My Daughter again yesterday afternoon, but she declined. Her pride was still hurting I guess. So My wife took the opportunity to go with me. We got settled in stand around 3pm and expected the action to start shortly thereafter. 2 hours later, nothing was stirring. Just as my wife started to get a little discouraged, She said is that a deer on the side of that hill over there? I checked with the bino's and sure enough, there he stood. He was a good 250 yards away and across the property line. I noticed that he was feeding our way and he had been coming to the field we were hunting checking does in the evening. he disappeared into the bottoms and 20 minutes later he jumped the line fence and walked within 40 yards of the stand. He never knew we were in his world. My wife dropped the hammer with the 7Mag. He made it 25 yds and piled up. I thought she was gonna parachute outta the stand. I got her calmed down and we eased out the stand and recovered her first ever buck. It is solid 8 point with decent mass. It's going on the wall. She says she has a place in her office just for it.

That's great. Congrats to your wife. Your one lucky man in my opinion to have. Wife and daughter both that enjoy the hunt with you. My gf passed on a decent 4 point Fri he was just to young and to small for her and she has yet to kill a buck. Thanks for the great read and good luck to your daughter.

Ditto on everything that has been said. I also loved the earrings, lipstick and make up, emoLaugh She must have thought she might be possing for a picture. emoThumbsup Jmax

Jmax, Apparently so! The taxidermist I have used in the past is taking so time off til Feb. Does anybody know of one that is reasonable with a decent turnaround?

Great adventure.... Be very proud of your wife. many men can not even get permission to go hunting alone.. You are a fortunate man. Buy her something special for no apparent reason to show your appreciation.

You might call Norms taxidermy. I don't have his number handy right now but he is in the Rock Springs Ga area. He has done two European mounts for me and they're pretty cool. Not sure of his price or turnaround on a shoulder mount but I know he does a jam up job. Tell your wife congratulations on a GREAT buck. Many of us have never killed one that big!

There is a lady in soddy her name is Doris. If u pm me I can get her number for u when I get home.

Bj milsaps on hwy 58 has done my last few mounts. Very reasonable! Ill text you his number when i find it.
