Wondering if any of you guys followed the sport much? I've been a big fan since I was about 10 and went to Bristol for the first time. My first race was the night race up there, so I was a little spoiled from the get go! Been hooked for the last 16 years and usually go to 4-5 races a year. Anyway, I do a Fantasy NASCAR League over on Yahoo and this is our 5th year doing it. If any of you guys are interested in joining it, shoot me a PM and I will give you all the details. It's $40 per team, which is just over $1.10 per race. This is cheap and fun, and you really have a chance to win some good money. 2 years ago, the winner of our group took home a little over $450. Not bad if you ask me for a $40 investment! Anyway, ya'll let me know if you're interested and I will give you all the details. Hoping to get over 20 folks this year. I will pay 1 spot for every 4 entries that we have. So if 12-15 sign up, we will pay 3 spots. 16-19 will pay 4 spots. And 20 or more will pay 5 places!!!

Although I'm a Nascar fan, the only race I attended was the 1962Atlanta spring race that was postponed twice and finally won byFred Lorenzenin a rain-shortened race. It was great, I think. I was pretty drunk from drinking beer all day. I do remember it was a mud bog in the infield where we were, but we were close to the backstrech fence. It was a thrill watching all those cars come off turn 2 and come down the backstretch on the first lap. An interesting side note. All the cars had their initial gas fillup from the same gas pump located just behind pit road. I stood at the fence and watched and listened as several filled up. The sound of those race cars idling was awesome.

In 1964, I went to the Tivoli Theatre to watch the Indy 500 on Closed Circuit TV. That was the race where two Drivers were killed in a first lap crash that delayed the race for 2 or 3 hours. Eddie Sachsand DaveMcDonald were killed. The video projector was a monstrosity about 6-8 feet tall, black & white picture, of course.A.J. Foyteventually won the race.

PS... I had to go to Google to get my facts straight.

Well, I am not much into fantasy sports, JDK but I have grown to absolutey love racing. My first race was Nov'92 Atlanta when I was 32, it was Petty's last race and unknown Jeff Gordon's first (I have 10 unwrapped programs with race patches tucked away, hoping they are valuable someday). I had been an avid sports fan all my life and had played or attended hundreds of grade school, high school, college and professional sporting events but was stunned by the different sights, sounds and sensations of racing. Technology, speed, power, LOUD, tire grit hitting my arms as we stood at the rail in turn 4, tire smoke, burning racing fuel, camp fire smoke. At Bristol, especially if you sit low you can literally feel the vibration as they pass in a pack. I confess I had looked down on racing and its fans and expected to go to Atlanta and see rednecks spending their last dollar but what an eye opening experience. The most amazing mix of society I had ever seen. There were guys in overalls (pulling out big rolls of cash) and ladies in high heels/fur coats standing in concession lines buying shirts, jackets, beer, brats. Private jets and helicopters flying in and out at the airport next door. Man, I can't wait for Bristol!!!!

I like Nascar but it has dropped off since Earnhardt and Bill France Jr died. The personalities aren't as good as they used to be. The new car is an absolute joke. I'm fine with it being a bigger, safer car but that wing on the back looks hideous and who could have dreamed up that from splitter? I believe they will go back to spoilers after march testing and hopefully they will look at that stupid looking splitter.I also think they need to forget the Chase and the lucky dog rule. It was better when the whole season champ won and not just the guy who does best in the last ten races.

Yea Lance they are discussing getting rid of the wing now and going back to a regular spoiler. To be honest, I am looking forward to the Nationwide cars. They are finally going back to a look that actually resembles a stock car. I'd love to see the Cup do the same!

Anyway, ya'll need to join us for this years fantasy season. It makes things a lot more interesting when you have to pick drivers you dont like and root for them to do well!

i dont do the fantasy stuff but i have been watching nascar since 1984. rusty wallace was always my favorite driver. my first race was daytona in july 1991. been to atlanta in nov 93, daytona july 91 & 92, and talladega on for 6 races. the last being 2002

If that excites you go to an NHRA drag race ( Atlanta and Bristol are this spring} and you will experience some SERIOUS power.
Plus your ticket is a pit pass where you can meet the drivers and see everything up close.

just put Harvick on your fantasy team and you will do good.RCR was coming on hard at the end of the season and i expect Harvick and Burton to have a great season, and hopefully knock them Hendrick drivers off there high horses.

......BUT DO THEY TURN LEFT AT 180 MPH emoPoke emoPoke

I`ll have to agree with Lance`s thoughts on state of NASCAR.
I also have to agree with dragfish on the NHRA stuff. I started going to SpringNationals at Bristol in 1970. Then funnys and top fuel were putting out 1000-1200 HP. Now they cranking out 8000 HP
You absolutely can`t begin to imagine what 16,000HP leaving the line at the same time is like. The Raw power flowing thru the air is truly scary...even for somebody thats been seeing it for a long time. It will truly make your eyballs flutter and beat the air out of your chest if you`re within 100 ft or more. And the nitetime runs are just beautiful.
Ashley Force is another plus to the pits.
Sorry didn`t mean to Hijack...blame it on Dragfish.

Many Nascar fans can't stand Tony Stewart!!!! Why??? Basically because he tells it how he see's it.... Not once have I ever seen him hold back punch, nor will I probaly ever.... But you know what??? I respect him for that.... He might not be the greatest person on this Earth, but sometimes we need someone that will tell you how it is......

I love Tony Stewart along with Dale Jr and Kahne is ok too. I hate both of the Busch brothers and Denny Hamlin. I don't think I'm going to like Brad krapolowski either.

Ihave heard that from several folks. I do need to try that. I bet thunder valley at night is awesome.

Hey Dragfish, what did you think of NASCAR's changes announced today?

Also, what about this for NHRA?

NHRA goes 4-wide:

The NHRA's four professional classes will race four lanes simultaneously for the first time at the inaugural Four-Wide Nationals at ZMax Dragway on March 25-28. The year-old drag strip ran a four-lane exhibition race last fall, and fan reaction led the circuit to try it for the first of two stops.

"I think four-lane racing is going to be unbelievable," said 14-time Funny Car champ John Force, the trial runner-up. "When I heard the first car start up, then another and another and another, I was like a little kid. I don't know how they're going to do it, but I'm positive about the hype."

Oh yeah..bump drafted is back at Daytona and maybe Talledaga....back to spoliers and larger restrictor plates. Hey NASCAR...do away with the plates altogether. Let's go RACING!!!!!!

I just wonder how much bigger the restrictor plates will be? 1/32 or 1/64" is not enough. The cars need to pickup 8-10 mph without drafting help. That's the only way they will get separation. Also, I would put the spoilers on now rather than waiting until after late March testing. I would do away with that stupid front splitter as well.
