Negotiations are underway with the Chattanooga Sports Authority and the board of directors of the National Bass Fishing Trail (www.NBTbass.com) to hold the 2009 NBT National Championship in Chattanooga in June 2010 on Chickamauga Lake. Final word on this event should come no later than the end of July.

NBT is the only national organization with a full Juniors' division allowing juniors (17 and under) to fish every tournament we host. Simply put you don't have to leave your kid at home to tournament fish. My son and I fish together in the same boat. I have an entry fee and a big bass pot and compete against the adults. He has a smaller entry fee and a big bass pot and competes against the kids, and and the end of the day we hope to carry two large sacks to the scales.

NBT just had their 2008 championship last week on Wheeler Lake out of Rogersville. The adult winner took home $5500 plus additional side pot money. The junior winner took home $1000 plus. The adult side paid out to 13 out of 57 and the juniors paid 4 out of the small 13 field. (several juniors had conflicts this year with new jobs and sports camps.) We intend for our championship prizes to be larger next year and are even working on ideas to bring in a boat sponsor for at least the juniors and possibly the adults.

As NBT grows qualifications are simple for the nationals. Adults must fish 3 one day tournaments and one 2 day district championship to be eligible for the nationals. Juniors must fish 2 one days and one 2 day district championship. Once you are a NBT member you can fish any district's tourneys and qualify.

There are currently two districts in TN. I have the original TN district and we fish mostly southern middle and southeastern TN. There is a TN Central district that fishes the Nashville area and above. We would love to have a TN Eastern district start up that would fish all of the eastern part of the state as well as a TN Western that would do the same.

Those of you on this board can easily qualify for next year's nationals by simply joining my district and fishing the remainder of the season. My next tourney is July 18 on Nickajack. I have tourneys 8-22 and 10-3 on Woods Reservoir. I have another one day 9-19 on Nickajack and the championship is 11 14 & 15 on Nickajack. I have to make up a tourney from May sometime before the championship and I'm moving that to Chickamauga sometime this fall.

The July 18 tourney on Nickajack is already scheduled as an open so you could fish without joining and try us out. Then join later and that would still count toward qualification for you if you join.

If you would like more information on NBT and or the TN District you can visit www.NBTbass.com, call me at 931-235-6216 or email me at [email protected].

It's good to see all those kids out there fishing. Enjoyed checking out the Nickajack pictures.

If I wasn't already attending a kids tournament on the 18th I'd fish Nickajack with you all.

Thanks for sharing. emoThumbsup

After yesterday's meeting I believe this is more and more likely. I should know something in just a few days. There is still plenty of time to join and qualify if you are interested. We fish our next tourney July 18 on Nickajack out of Marion County park. Contact me if you're interested.

We're still small and growing in my district. We're seeing 12-15 adults and 4-7 juniors on our regular tourneys. I'm trying to do more on the Chattanooga side of Monteagle mountain as this district was fishing mostly Tims, Woods and Normandy before. My goal is to have enough tourneys on each side of the mountain for anyone to qualify for the district championship by fishing on their side of the mountain and then rotate the championship to each side every other year.

The Nationals last month on Wheeler had 57 adults and 13 juniors. NBT just added a Louisana district that will fish the rest of this year to qualify for the 2010 nationals. I believe the nationals in Chattanooga could see as many as 150 adults and 50 or more juniors.

A major point I'd like to make to all of you about NBT is....it's about the juniors. Especially for me. I've fished all my life and I'm pushing 43. However I never tournament fished until my boy who will be 13 in November said he wanted to go 6 years ago. It's grown for us from going to 2-3 tournaments the first year to me being the director for 2 years now.

NBT is very kid friendly. Every tournament we host has a junior tourney as well as an adult tourney. They have a $15 entry fee with a $5 optional big bass pot and they're looking for 5 keepers to compete with the other juniors in the tourney. At my tournaments the kids always get something no matter how they finish. And for a kid to qualify for the "classic" or district championship they only have to fish 2 tournaments in the year. Right now as NBT is growing they only have to fish 2 one day tourneys and the district championship to qualify to fish the nationals. Now they're going to want to fish more than that if they want to be in the AOY race as that is your best 4 one days combined with a 2 day and the nationals.

Once your in NBT you can fish any tourney in the nation and your points total up on the national standings. You can even erase a 2 day score by fishing a second one and finishing better. All adults have to fish is 3 one days to qualify for a district championship.

So all of you in the various leagues in the Chattanooga area don't have to jump ship to get involved or more importantly to bring the kid along your leaving home. You can fish just 3 tournaments and be in the mix for everything. We've had kids as young as 4 competing and we've had plenty of girls competing. We also have adult family members that fish together. I've got a couple of brothers that fish in the same boat and bring two sacks in every time. Family are allowed to fish together without being drawn out to other boats.

So if you have a kid in the family, at the school you teach at, in the neighborhood or wherever you think would like to fish I hope you'll consider NBT. I've got 4 tournaments left on the regular season schedule and have to post another one for a makeup in probably August or September. I'm going to put that on Chickamauga since it looks like the nationals may be there next summer and most of us have never fished it. If anyone has any recommended dates for that I'd like to know.

My revised shedule for the rest of the year.... All you Chattanooga side folks can fish your side of the mountain and qualify for the district and the nationals.

July 18 Nickajack(1) Marion Co. Park
Aug 22 Woods Morris Ferry
Sept 19 Nickajack Marion Co. Park
Oct 3 Woods Morris Ferry
Oct 17 Chickamauga Chester Frost Park
Nov 14/15 Nickajack(2) Marion Co. Park

1 Open Tourney, 2 District Championship

All are SDL and weigh in times are determined before launch. If July 18 is going to be a scorcher we will probably weigh in at 1:00. If it's nice we'll probably go til 3.

Got the word from the president that we're almost a go. He's waiting on the contract in the mail and if it matches up with all discussed then he should call me Saturday while we're on the water and let me know this is a go. This makes Saturday's tourney on Nickajack more important for any of you on the Chattanooga side to qualify. If you fish this one you'll be able to stay on Nickajack and Chickamauga to qualify. If not you'll have to go over to one of the Woods tourney's or to another district to get qualifed.

I really want to give all of you Chattanooga area guys a chance to get in which is why I keep putting all of this on the boards.

David.
