Well we wrapped up our season Saturday and Sunday on Nickajack out of Shellmound. Only 4 of the 8 local qualified adults and 4 of the 5 qualified juniors fished the 2 day championship.
On the adult side it ended up a battle between Brent Sain and John Elliott. Saturday Brent had five fish for 13.10 and John and five for 12.11. Brent had the big fish with a 3.69. I brought the only other adult fish to the scales with a 3.04. Sunday Brent had four fish for 11.98 with the big fish again with a 4.88. John came to the scales with five for 12.80. So Brent's 2 day total was 25.08 to John's 24.91. I came in third with 7.86 and Robert Damron was fourth with 3.03. Brent took the first place pot of $304 plus the $500 Bonus Bucks I had set aside from sponsor money. He also got $40 more for the big fish. Since the field was small there shouldn't have been a second place but I had a $250 second place Bonus Bucks in place so John took that home.
On the Junior side I'm a real proud dad this weekend to say the least. Day 1 Dakota Cantrell led with 2 fish for 5.14 while Hank Lowrie had 1 for 3.15. Hank's was the big fish. Day 2 was a much different story. Dakota managed only 1 fish for 2.54. Not a normal deal for him since he's won the district championship 3 years in a row and the nationals 2 years in a row. He really is that good but he's also a great friend to Hank and it pushes Hank to get better so he can beat Dakota. Well Sunday was Hank's day. Hank came to the scales with 5 fish for 13.29 pounds including the big fish of 3.31 giving him a total of 16.44 for 2 days to Dakota's 7.68. Noel Damron and Weslee Elliott didn't manage any fish for the two days. Hank got $80 for first place, $200 Bonus Bucks and $20 each day for Big fish for a total of $320. Dakota got $100 Bonus Bucks for second place.
Brent and Dakota will end the season as the Academy Sports + Outdoors NBT TN District Anglers of the Year. We will have our banquet on Nov. 18 at Jim Oliver's Smokehouse in Monteagle and give out all of our awards. If you won a tournament you have a plaque waiting on you at the banquet. We'll also draw for the 4-wheeler. If you haven't got your tickets for that PLEASE do. I really need that fundraiser to be a success.
Also.....Jody Castle.... you're my HERO! Hank couldn't have done it without you. Brother I cannot thank you enough. This was one of the best weekends of my life!!! I've never seen him fish better than he did yesterday. Nothing like a 2 pound cull 30 minutes before weigh in. Bottom line Jody....if you need a kidney...I'm your man!
