Hello, I am new to having a larger boat/motor and I looking for a Stainless Steel Prop.
A friend gave me his spare 25p Mercury Tempest+ and said that should get you in the ballpark for RPMs.
And It does, I run at about 51-5200 rpms at WOT and it runs about 62mph GPS.
I believe I need to be closer to 55-5600. with my WOT range being 5000-6000

I am thinking that I need either a 23P 3Blade. or 22-23P 4Blade.
I am not sure what the true difference is between the blade count.

If anyone would be interested in trading or selling theirs let me know.
Or give some suggestions on what Brand/model to look for. It would be appreciated.

I have a 2001 Nitro 205FS. with a 10" jackplate. Johson 225Hp venom.
I run at about 51-5200 rpms at WOT and it runs about 62mph GPS.

thanks for the help.

I second the recommendation for Billy Eaves. He knows props like fish know barametric pressure! He will go above and beyond to help you.

Have you had the motor serviced lately?

A 225 on a 20 foot boat should turn a 25 With that engine you should be turning it close to 6000 RPM as you can. at least above 5800 RPM

If you try a different prop and it doesn't change much you may need to have the engine looked at

BTW my old 200 Johnson turned a worked 24 6000 rpm on a 19.6 boat You should be able to turn that at least
The old Johnson's made plenty of HP when running right

The thing is that you can run 5 different 25 pitch props and they will turn different RPM's as you get into things like progressive pitch, rake, blade width, amout of cup and roll, ect. All props don't want to run at the same engine height so as stated prviously you can try to optimize your set up by raising the engine and it may result in more RPM's and speed. Here is how to do it.

First off, WATCH THE WATER PRESSURE! I see 2 different water pressures depending on the pump housings. What psi are you now?

Take a note pad with you. Run the engine and note the RPM's and speed. Raise the engine 1/4" on the jackplate and make another run and see if your speed and RPM's inceased. IF so continue to raise the engine untill the RPM's increase and the speed decreases. Lower it back down to where the speed and RPM's peaked. This will have you very close then you can start fine tuning (up or down 1/8"). I hope this helps! Just my .02

Thanks for the information and advice.

I plan on trying raising the JP and trying that route first before swapping props. As soon as I finish with the carpet and seats. Right now I have the all ripped up and out.

I just had the motor put on back in September this past year. When I bought my boat earlier last year it had an older Yamaha 150 that could not even push the bow of the boat on the trailer fully. And for the money at the time I could not pass up the deal. Also I could not pass up this motor for trade of that crappy 150.

It is a 1995 Johnson Venom 225hp to the guy that asked about it being services and it was run and tested before I picked it up from the dealership I bought the motor from.

If raising the jackplate does not resolve the issue. I will give Billy a call.

On another note upholstery shops --- any good ones around Chattanooga? I will post on a different thread...
