I am in the market for a new Shimano quickfire and I've been looking at Shimano's Solstace fH spinning reel. I bought a quickfire , not a solstace model, at Wal-mart a couple of years ago and took it back because the line twisted so bad , all I got to do was take the spool of and dig the line out. I will appreciate any advice on the solstace model or any other quickfire out there.

I think Daiwa makes good spinning reels. I prefer Shimano in baitcasters though. Soddy custom tackle has Daiwa sweepfire spinnin reels for very cheap. I have a couple and they have been ok.

My line stopped twisting badly when I watched Bill Dance tell me to open and close the bail on every cast by hand and not by turning the handle.

That made me a little happier when I used those reels.

If you can find it, I like the Spirex. It is a little less hard on the wallet and does a great job if you treat it right. Eric is right, the smaller the diameter spool the more the line will tend to twist. Shimano has come out with reels they swear eliminate 95% of twist because of the bearings, bail, spool and so on. Haven't tried them yet but I'd like to.

I have Shimano quickfire spinning reels exclusively and all of my recent ones are the spirex reels with the dual crank handles. BassERTs observation will go a long way towards reducing twist. All of my reels are also all rear drag. I must be lucky in not experiencing significant line twist.

I've got 3 of diawa sweepfires from soddy tackle no problems with them dang good reel for less than 15 bucks

I agree with everyone, close the bail by hand, although I go alittle further and run my fingers down the line between the bail and the first guide to get any twist out, it seems to help out alot

I don't like the quick fires myself but I have 2 Shimanos I hardly use. Stradic Series...smooth!

Beeltespin's suggestion is good. I see a lot of people using the Diawa line and Soddy has a great assortment of them. I have one, again hardly use it, but when I do, Its feels and works great.

Jason's right about the closing the bail also. I was amazed that it would help yet really does.

Also, it helps to stretch that line out before using it! Spool it up, hook something in the yard and let it all out...pull and stretch it, spool back up.

Add a couple of swivels to the end of your line and tie them to something and walk across the yard with the rod and reel, stretch the line real good, if there is any twist in the line the swivels will let it unwind. Then reel the line back on the reel as you walk back to where the end of the line is tied to the swivels.</p>
