I have a 50hp 1968 merc that I just put on my boat and I am looking for a mechanic to adjust the throttle and shift cables I cant seem to get it right. also when I rebuilt the water pump and put the lower unit back on I must have bumped something and now it won't shift into reverse or neutral stays in foward. anyone know of someone close to oldfort or cleveland that they recommend?

i think its a simple fix , what happned is that when yo replaced the w/p/ you let the shift spline move , you need to remove the lower unit and take a pair of good plyers(CAREFULLY) and move the lower unit back to the netrual position, (prop spins freely) and make sure that the control is in the up lock position, oh yea ! make sure that the water tube is in right !! its a simple as you first thought it was !! but now ya just need to do it again !!!:)
that should fix it , but if you messed with the shift linkage then its gonna take a little time to get it back right !
but learning is better than having never tried !
hope this helps

sound advice, happen to me like that too. Just backed foot off and re-adjusted. That sould cure the problem.emoTongue
