hey just checkin 2 see if any one knew of a good air compressor for a 2005 mercury optimax is for sale. 865-679-0921 if any ???

A new one for my 06-200 was about $700 at Island Cove, replaced my bad bearings for $55 ( parts and labor)
What's wrong with yours?

all these issues with newer mercs I keep seeing here and elsewhere makes me go hummm dont these things have a 4 or 5 yr warranty ? AS much as new motor costs you would think they could warranty better .. What does the compressor do on a outboard ? Compress the air and gas before going onto injectors ? Oh I know in case you have a flat on your trailer .. that way you can air up your spare.. or oh oh another good use .. compressed air into live well lol

had 3 year warranty thought i had extended warranty then found out after 3 years it didnt get added on thanks too 'bunch marine'

every thing is gone pistons rings bearings lol its a mess found new one at boats.net 650.00 free ship no tax but flat broke lookin around before i go that route

The new mercs have a HIGH PRESSURE injection, the compressor is used to create HIGH PRESSURE! Sounds like dude got screwed by Bunch. The Mercs have no more issues than the Yammies or Etecs.

Surely you could find a blown motor with a compressor?

A dealer can break the parts down for you ( somewhat) Is the cylinder scrared up or the case cracked ?

I know what you mean about doing it on the cheap.

Please do not help this kid!!! He needs to stay off the lake as much as possible, he takes way to much of my money when he is fishing! Lol!!! I'll trade you my motor for yours, you know all the reasons.lol!

Churly is dead on. That is how they are so fuel efficient. They inject air and fuel directly in the cylinder during compression under very high pressure though a injector in the head near the spark plug. This means no fuel escapes out the exhaust port so no wasted fuel. A EFI still injects fuel in the crankcase just like carbs but make more power due to atomazation is alot better.

I agree no more problems than the rest of the DFI engines. They all are expensive to repair. Just my .02

speedfish where is the love these days lol!!!! we be better off sellin while we r ahead and get a YAMAHA

It aint just Mercs.......They all give trouble eventually. If it has moving parts, its gonna break. They do have multiple years of warranty, depending on what incentives are in place at the time of purchase, along with extended warranties as well.

Well at least Erude dosent use a compressor .. the more moving parts the more things to break , if erude could figure out a way to do the same thing without a compressor youd think that Yammy and Merc could .. but as said by Wretchin2 some of the merc models made by yammy .. or at least they are sharing technology .. Yes I know that they all break .. it must be that there are more mercs around here .. so I see more of the merc issues.
Ive never owned a motor newer than 1994 so Ive never had to deal with all the stuff the newer motors have .. Ive just always had Johnson or Erude .. yes the mercs can be modified to death .. I guess if I ever get to the point I can buy a new motor I will have to decide then on which brand .. but I will defiantly be getting the extended warranty and make darn sure its on there in writing before I walk out the door.

And I guess its like everything else if you dont follow all of the scheduled maintenance and drive it wide open all the time it will fail prematurely .. If you drove your car full throttle day in and day out it wouldn't last near as long either.

Ive beaten this horse enuff I'm moving on :emoticon: emoZipped emoBigsmile

If I remember correctly, the Erude Ficht is what caused OMC to belly up....weak cheaply made parts in a 3rd world country. I would also say that Merc is strong in this particular area, so you DO see more on the water. The new technology isnt bad, in fact its a whole better than the old motors. Better gas mileage, more H.P., quiter, better emissions etc etc..

If ya drive a Vette, the parts are more expensive, but it doesnt the Vette is a piece of junk.

And ya dont have to drive it wide open to make a part fail, it can happen at an idle. Scheduled maintence?? I take it in @ 100 hrs , get new plugs and lower unit lube...no biggie.

Bottom line, there ain't nothing cheap about a boat & it's gona break on ya,sooner or later. Ya gotta pay to play.emoBang

I agree with ya on that 2jigs .. boat = bring out another thousand ... but since I play .. but I play with thrift store toys lol.. I figure I can buy several used motors for what one new one will cost me .. but would be nice to have a new motor under warranty instead of fixin my own all the time :)
