OK folks I didn't want to have to do this but I am in need of some blue cats. Because of my increased work schedule I have not had time to catch many cats this year. I am cooking fish at my church on Memorial day 5/28/07. I need about 120 to 150 pounds (live weight) to have enough along with what I already have. Anyone that can help I will pay for gas, bait, ice etc. and come pick them up most any evening. For sure the favor will be returned. I can be reached on my cell phone during the day at 423-322-5910 or evenings at home 706-638-1927 (local call from Chattanooga).

Many thanks,
Cheez

The bigger the better although I don't personally keep them any bigger than about 15 lbs. Mainly because if I get to fish I can usually get all I need in the 7 to 12 lb range. The real big ones are good but they are too much fun to catch and it takes them so long to reach the trophy size that I just release them.

this is just a personal request take it or leave it. Please don't keep them much bigger then 20 pounds if you can help it. This fishery is so good for catfish because of all the catch and release we do and while one big fish won't ruin it taking out 1 every time we all go will eventually hurt the fishery.

Thanks
Craig

emoThumbsup emoThumbsup for catch and release. CPR the breeder stock. C..atch, P...hoto, R...elease. Just my .02

I only keep Pan fish. I'm not much of a fish eater, But Small Catfish for a church Fish fry is not a bad thing, but the big ones need to go back.

I will try to help you out this week Cheez. In my experiance, the little cats, smaller than Four pounds, are just too much work for so little amount of meat.. I agree totally that the big ones are CPR. I keep only Blue cats between 4 and 12 lbs Maybe up to 15 lbs if I am in need of fish. But never anything killed over Fifteen lbs.

So for Cheez a good weight range would be 4 to 15 lbs. There are plenty of catfish in that range for the taking without harming our fishery.

The little ones need to grow some and gain some weight. It is a waste to kill them.
The big old cats need to live on and produce more cats.

LL I appreciate it and I could not agree more on the size thing. Some people like the small ones but to me the absolute perfsct size blue is around 8 pounds. Personally I don't keep the big ones but I don't believe keeping them hurts the fishery. For many, many years the commercial guys kept everything and I mean multiplied thousands of pounds of catfish and they never harmed the fishery. Now there are very few commercial fishermen out there and the fishery is thriving. I just don't keep the real big ones because they are so much fun to catch and they take so long to get to the trophy size. JMHO
