well, i bought this old boat last year, a 1990 15 1/2 ft javelin. and after fishing in it a year i decided to "SPIFF" it up a little!i decided i was going to re clearcoat it. ive sanded one before and polished it but not have sprayed one so hear i went. i started off with a putty knife ( yea, it was that bad!). then wet sanded with 120 to get alot of the dirt and scratches out! followed with 400 wet sanding of coarse, then 800, then 1000, then 2000 for the final sand. every time i changed the coarse of the sandpaper you could tell a remarkable difference in it. and it really wasnt that bad once i got the first sanding done with the 120. i kept the boat and the paper very wet at all times and it worked out very good!!!!!! once i was through sanding i made a couple calls to make sure you couldspray "clear" on top of "gel".( guess i should have asked that question before i sanded it!!). but oh well!!!! the answers was yes!!!!!! so here i go!!!! bought theduplicolor clearcoat and off i went!!!!out of a gallon of clear i got 6 coats on the bottom and 9 coats on the top. had a little trouble out of my sprayer but i managed and made it through!!!! once i was through spraying, a couple days to dry and i followed up with another very light wet sanding with the 2000 and MAN OH MAN!!!! IT LOOKED AWESOME!!!!! washed it all down with a rag and just water and let it dry for a couple days then polished and waxed it!!!!!!! the polish and wax made it look a thousand times better!!!!! thats the key to keeping one looking great! (learned that from poboy!) as to the brand of thepolish and wax, you'll have to ask poboy for it cause im not telling!!! lol. but all-in-all took about a week of evenings sanding it andgetting it ready, and i only got a couple hundred bucks in it, so in my book thats not to bad!!!! here area few finished pics of it. i didnt take any before pics cause i really didnt think it was going to turn out so dang well!! ( i started with a putty knife)! enjoy!!
