Howdy. My home is in SE Tn. a few miles west of NC and about 10
miles north of GA.My closest lake is Hiwassee, but it is not much further to Parksville. My boat is a Princecraft Pro Angler .My fishing partner is my 12 year old son.We fish a lot .The fishing at Hiwassee
has been good lately for us. The schooling spots have been active and willing generally from about 6:00 pm to sunset. We have gotten
some better fish with C-rigged plastic worms on the secondary points
also.We have been going after school and home work Monday through Thursday and averaging about a dozen good fish each trip.
Most have been spots ,but some smallmouth and largemouth show up
as well. The largest last week was a 4 lb. largemouth caught by my son when he threw a 1/4 oz. white spinner at a rise. The lake is way down and falling a foot or more every day.
I googled upon this forum seeking information on the catfishing
situation at the base of Watt's bar dam. I have a neighbor who does not get out much due to health issues related to his advanced age that used to go there and would like to again although he has no boat
and doesn't drive much anymore.I have offered to take him.I moved
to Tn form Ga. about 2 years ago and have not fished there yet.I know how to get to the ramp across from the power plants, but that is about the extent of my knowledge of the area.My friend says we need to go at night, power up to the released water and drift cutbait down with heavy tackle.I have read some of the posts related to this. What I am concerned about is how safe this is going to be.Can anyone advise me on what to expect in terms of hazards associated with this area in the dark. My boat is a deep-V aluminun 17 footer with 50 hp
and bow mount troller.I am a fairly experienced boater, but I guess I'm a little concerned because my neighbor told me that the last time he went there he had his jon-boat swamped and sunk by the wake of
passing, large boat.I don't do much catfishing but I think we will have a fine adventure.Any advice will be appreciated.

Great to have you on the forum HH! I don't know if you have fished the tailraces much but there are so many catfish at Sequoyah to be had, if it were me I'd not worry my head about the rough water at the dam and just fish the lake. If Sequoyah isn't where you want to go there are lots of other great places to fish for the cats in Chickamuaga and probably even at Parksville. I'd just look for vertical drops at the outside bends of the river channel with a 10-30 foot shelf dumping into the main river channel. How deep is the channel on the lower ends of Parksville and Hiwassee? I would bet that there are lots of good cats there if you are interested in looking for them.

I'm a basser when it comes to the lakes. My neighbor is wanting to go to the dam for cats so that is where I'm going to take him. After that,I'll be back to plastics and plugs.I know there are catfish all over the world but I won't be chasing them very often.

emoWelcome With the boat that you have you should have no problem with the water below the dams. Keep you life jackets on at all times. Motor up as close to the dam as you dare and drift down. Use heavy enough sinkers to keep the bait near the bottom. Just keep bumping that sinker up and down. Drift a different line each drift. Use chunks of chicken breast or skipjack and hang on. There is some monster cats laying below those dams...you may just give up bassin if ya hang into one of those big blues in the 50 plus range.

Welcome and you came to the right spot for some catfish information, this forum has many that are pro's.
