Hi im new to fresh water fishing and the forum i was wondering where i should start if i just ant to fish. I have quite a few times but im not impressed with my numbers. I was wondering what type of fish would be best to just build skill by targeting. I was planning on Crappie but i from what i read it isnt the best time to do that. Any help will be appreciated

I have an ugly stick spinning combo a cheap Matzuo rod and reel with 8lb Mr. Crappie high vis line and 8lb mono on the gly stick
Is it ok to use a road runner jig from shore? is jigging easy to pick up and learn or should i stick with the drp shot ive been using
BTW im at chatt state so i hope to go to lake junior as much as possible and the dam

Welcome. I'm not to sure about crappie being I only bass fish but wanting to learn to crappie fish myself. But that rod reel combo would be fine. Wen my grandpa first taught me to fish I always member using a rooster tail esp in the river. It'll catch about anything from bass to redeye bluegill and prob would catch a crappie to. Good luck!

Welcome! Bluegill seem to be good to start with. I started with whales and didn't do any good. emoAngler That's when I went to bluegill. emoUpsmile
