Humminbird® Unveils Most Powerful Electronics Yet

Humminbird ONIX and ION bring bluewater and freshwater anglers unparalleled power via user-friendly Cross Touch™ technology

FT. LAUDERDALE, FL. (October 31, 2013) – Besides creating leading-edge products like 360 Imaging™, Humminbird® engineers have also been hard at work over the past two years developing a radical new platform that changes everything you know about fishing electronics.

Please welcome ONIX and ION, introduced today, Thursday, October 31st, at the Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show. (http://www.showmanagement.com/fort_lauderdale/event/)

“Humminbird ONIX and ION offer a rich user interface that is completely customizable to the individual needs of anglers and boaters, while remaining extremely easy-to-use via a full complement of multi-touch capabilities,” says Dale Logue, Director of Marketing, Humminbird. “The included feature list and available add-ons is unparalleled in the industry and make the units the most versatile, powerful and user friendly on the water.”

At the core of the new units, users will discover all the advantages of powerful Humminbird sonar, advanced navigation and Humminbird imaging technologies right at their fingertips, courtesy of a radical new take on Touch Screen operation called Cross Touch™.

While some touch units limit operation to finger pointing, Humminbird’s Cross Touch offers Multi-Gesture Control, which lets users navigate menus and activate features with a tap, swipe or pinch. Cross Touch also minimizes false touches from splashing water.

From marking waypoints with your finger, naming those waypoints via a virtual keyboard, to zooming in on fish-holding structure or chart locations for a better look, or swiping and dragging screens to create custom views, fishfinder use has never been more intuitive than this.

But ONIX And ION are more than touch screen units. They also feature redundant, traditional touchpad controls for complete control in bad weather.

Humminbird ONIX

The ONIX family currently comprises four models, offering anglers the benefits of powerful Cross Touch with the sonar, imaging and navigation features they need most. All units feature 1024H x 768V best-in-class screen resolution on 10.4- or 8.4-inch high-definition XGA LCD Touch Displays with multi-gesture support and bright graphics readable in harsh sunlight.

Users can also add on AutoChart to map their own waters, state-of-the-art C-MAP 4D High Resolution Bathymetry by Jeppesen or Navionics Gold/HotMaps and Platinum+.

Hopefully these will drop the prices of the 300-500 series. Because Im looking at buying my first fishfinder and really hope the 500 series with SI drops a good $300-$400. Haha. Those are some amazing looking units. Wish I had the funds to get one when they came out.

Those look nice. That's the only thing I don't like about mine is having to scroll forever to mark something on side imaging.

Lots of cool features and options. Like Wireless Internet, Humminbird Exclusive MultiCHIRP Sonar, TriFuel Mapping Technology, and a lot more. It's exciting day for new innovation in marine electronics for sure!

And here I thought my 998 was complicated!

The 500 series has been discontinued and some great sales going on now. But they have taken the best from the 500 and 700 series to make the new 600 Series with better price points. All the 600 series are priced below what the 700 series counterparts were priced.

I just got a chance to chat a couple minutes with the Humminbird Experts on the NEW ION and ONIX.

They will NOT be able to Network with the Current Models. Different Networking Systems inside the units. ION can Network only with another ION, ONIX with another ONIX.

BUT there are changes to the Networking these units can do!

* Map Sharing Between the same series ONIX to ONIX or ION to ION. You'll only need 1 Mapping Card for both Units.
* Transducer Sharing: You can buy a Combo Model and a Side Imaging Model and get Side Imaging on both models. Only available in the same series too. But you can buy an 8" SI ONIX and share SI to the 10" ONIX (Non-SI)
* 360 Imaging and iPilot Link will be able to connect via Ethernet
* Wireless Internet can be generated thru WiFi connection at Ports or Via Cellular Devices that provide Hot Spots. Smartphones, iPads, etc.
* ION Series is a black box networking system that is very popular in the Bluewater Boats.
* ONIX Series is more plug and play networking system popular in Fresh and Bluewater Boats.

Stay tuned he had to get back to work as they are slam packed in the both with people asking questions on the new products from Humminbird! Said he would give me the full run down once he gets back to the office and things settle back down.

The NEW ONIX will feature a NEW "All in One" Digital Transducer that provides Side Imaging, Down Imaging and 2D Sonar plus Temp from separate crystals from a single transducer. If a previous SI owners wishes to upgrade there will be an adapter cable to use the current HDSI transducer with the ONIX but will not see as great as details due to the HDSI being a Analog Transducer and the All in One a Digital Transducer.

This image was captured with the ONIX and "All in One" Transducer

The ION will offer several Transducer Options with Black Box style technology. This link to a Video of the ION in action will help you see the CrossTouch Technology in action plus more on the ION Transducer Options: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqsIK6YZzvE&feature=share&list=UU5MJuDSgLZi_qSVujH6uYrA
