The fix for sonar problems encounter with the original 4.0 is available. The release date shows 6/15 and the version is 4.0.36.59. I have loaded it in both my HDS units but will not have a chance to test it for a couple of days.

keep us informed on how you do...i`ve been waiting after I heard about the 4.0 problems. still on 3.5 I guess

Tried out the new load this morning and the only issue I had was vertical lines (interference from transom transducer) on the HDS 7 at the front of the boat. I have the ping speed set at 19 on the HDS 8 on the console and 18 for the HDS 7 (front). I reduced the ping speed for the HDS 7 to 15 and the vertical lines went away. Ranging issue with shallow water mode has been fixed. You can only test so much in two hours but everything I tried worked fine. I used the new programable soft keys (HDS 8 & 10) and they make it quicker to change views. These, in conjunction with the existing soft keys, makes the units even more user friendly and versatile.

I downloaded it and tried it on simulator and noticed lines on 1 of my hd7s. My noise rejection was off and put it on low and lines dissapeared, you may try that if you have vertical lines. Everything else seems fine. Put back in shallow water mode and the structure scan works at any range.

Running the simulator files allows you to test the features, not actual system performance. You are not using returns from the sonar and structure scan transducers. I always run surface and noise rejection on low. The vertical lines were a result of using a high ping speed on both units. Reducing the ping speed on one solved that.

I had the the lines you described when fishing deeper water too. I usually stop sonar at console and it clears up lines or put in standby. Similator is all I can do anyway since engine is being rebuilt. I play around with it a lot at work sitting in truck at work on my break.

I downloaded the latest version, (I thought) on Monday and loaded it into my HDS7 a couple days later. I got out today to give it a try but it was a bomb, emoBang I didn't have ANY sonar. Everything else worked just fine. Sooo, when I got home I called Lowrance and the Tech said that the early week version had a glitch and that I should download the latest version, out on June 15th and it should fix my problems. I did that and it "looks" like the problem is solved. Won't get a chance to put it back in the water 'till next week but hopefully the newest version solves the "sonar" problems.
I was afraid that the transducer had gone bad, :( I've already had to replace the SI transducer, :( so it's easy to be gunshy

I have heard from others who have upgraded from 3.5 to 4.0 or higher that you have to go in to the installation menu and tell the unit the correct transducer to use. I have not upgraded either of my units to 4.0 or newer because there were way too many glitches from all I have read. I'll stick with 3.5 until they get it ironed out.
