Hi everyone, I'm a noob to the fishing scene. I went a few times when I was a child, oh I'm 25 :p. I use to live in Harrison, but have moved to North Chattanooga some time ago. Anyone have some suggestions for good bank fishing? I've got a lotta learning to do, I've been using worms, crankbaits, and roostertails mainly to no avail. I found this wonderful forum two days ago and started reading reading reading. I do not have a boat, and it seems that renting a cheap Jon boat around here is immpossible. I'd really like to do some bass fishing, maybe someone knows of some off the beaten paths or some of that bowater property I've heard sooo much about around here!! Hope to talk to you all soon!

Glad to have you as a fellow member. Just hang around and keep reading. Ask the questions and you will get help.

What sort of areas are you looking for to bass fish? TN River, small ponds or what?

Hey guys, nice to meet you all. I'd really love to hit some ponds if you guys know of any around here. I've been fishing different spots the last few days on the river here. I went up to a park on Soddy Creek I believe today, Hollyhill?? I didn't have any luck today at all. I got a couple small ones over near the dam during the week. Anywhere nice and peaceful would be great guys! Thanks a ton!

Socrates.... If you head to the Soddy area again for bank fishing, let me know when you are coming and I will try to meet you somewhere. There are alot of great places to bank fish in Soddy but it is much better when the water levels come up.

I would highly recommend walking the bank on the RiverPark side below the dam. BE CAREFUL! Rip-rap can be dangerous. When the flow is low, the exposed rocks are slippery! Stick with CHEAP lures. Plain 1/16 to 1/8th oz leadheads with light wire hooks and 3 to 4" grubs or tubes. You will hang up a lot. Carry one rod (medium spinning tackle and 8lb line) and a fanny pack so you can move easily. Pay particular attention to the gravel bar just below the railroad bridge. Smallmouth tend to gather there this time of year.

If your get frustrated with hangups, switch to a jerkbait. It doesn't run deep and is still effective.

emoUpsmile He's right ... until a year and 1/2 ago .. I sucked at fishing. I'm 48 going to be 49. Now I'm pretty good ... for a girl! Thanks to the CFF members!

Thakns again everyone. Carolf29 Thanks! I'll prolly make out sometime this week, if you would like to meet up for a couple hours. I haven't a lot to do right now, waiting for some Microsoft Training to start, so I'm gonnna try and fish as much as I can till then. Maybe I'll learn something! Oh, and Tennessee Talker, who said women can't fish? I know many a women who can, or could out fish me during their day! Mad Bomber, EXCELLANT post, I'm gonna try that spot today or tommorrow. I hope here in a few maybe! Anyone got some more ideas?

I got a super hot spot for you that is very private. I'm sending you a PM. Please don't kill off all the fish in this small but very productive pond.

WELCOME! I've done a little bit of bank fishing, and have found a few decent spots...still looking and would be glad to hang out one day...I get my boat back today or tomorrow, and often have an empty seat. Maybe we'll hook up and catch some bass. I spent the past 15 years NOT fishing, so I'm still learning (re-learning?) a lot about where to find fish...watch, listen, and read.

I fish the banks for more for bass than panfish. It's no different than from a boat with the exception of mobility. If you're in a boat, you work the bank quite a bit, but from the bank you might have trouble getting to banks that you can from the water.

My last 4 bank bass (all since late November): 3.5 lb SM, 3 lb LM, 3.5 lb spot, and a 12" LM. You WILL lose some lures, but I do not hesitate to toss $4-5 cranks or traps depending upon the shore I'm on. I will also use small crappie jigs on light tackle under a bobber when I get tired of casting. Spinnerbaits work fine. The big 3 listed above were caught on a trap, a crankbait, and a spinnerbait.

I like Chester Frost, Wolftever/ HBay areas, and the river downtown. Still trying new banks all the time...

I might have an empty seat in the boat this Sunday...if you are interested, send me a PM...

Wow, great responses! Oh, and for that thing, about that thing, about that pond...dang what was I talking about....lol, don't worry your pond is safe with me. I tried the damm, over on the Amnicola side, I'll have to do that when I learn what I'm doing. HAHA I got hung and hung and hung, lol, finally I decided I would go over to the Hixson side and fished under Hwy 153 in the creek. First cast I caught a small bass, I believe it was a stripe. Would you know it, it was the last fish all day??? My brother showed up, and he didn't have any luck either. I think we should just dynamite fish! BOOM! j/k. It's been fun, lotta learning to do on my part.
