For my birthday i got a new Lowrance 522 sonar with gps and decided to try it out on tuesday. One of my friends Cueball was off work and went with me. My idea was to hit the water and just try this thing out to see how accurate it was with the navionics card and stuff. Well we hit a couple of spots with no luck, then saw a hump in the channel on the lake map. I ran the sonar over the hump and it showed fish so we went back and drifted over the spot with 5 poles in the water. On the first pass I caught a 10 pounder, released it and then trolled back up to start another drift. As soon as we crossed this spot both of Cueball's poles on the front of the boat bent over. We thought at first it was one fish that had wrapped itself around his other line. Turns out it was 2 fish!! I reeled the smaller one to the boat and wedged it down in order to grab Cueball's big fish. I was able to get both hands in his mouth and load him in the boat. Weighed and measured him and released him back in good shape. The fish was 40 pounds and by far Cueball's personal best. We marked this spot on the gps, fished a while longer and headed in. Fish was caught in 26 feet of water.

RE: NEW SONAR=40 POUND CAT

Nice blue CRAZYHORSE! I need to get out and see if the cats are biting on my spots. I was thinking that the cats shut off in the winter but maybe it's just the catfish fishermen that shut off. Electronics are a blast aren't they?

Your gonna have to break out some beach towels for those hogs. Congrats on the new boat... I know you'll have fun this summer.

2 requests on bait gets an answer: fresh cut perch from bi-lo and some eye of round beef filets about $5
didn't get any hits on bacon strips we usually throw some different stuff out to see if it gets hit you never know what might work and be cheap.. the big-un had both in 2 inch squares on a # 8 hook
