For my birthday i got a new Lowrance 522 sonar with gps and decided to try it out on tuesday. One of my friends Cueball was off work and went with me. My idea was to hit the water and just try this thing out to see how accurate it was with the navionics card and stuff. Well we hit a couple of spots with no luck, then saw a hump in the channel on the lake map. I ran the sonar over the hump and it showed fish so we went back and drifted over the spot with 5 poles in the water. On the first pass I caught a 10 pounder, released it and then trolled back up to start another drift. As soon as we crossed this spot both of Cueball's poles on the front of the boat bent over. We thought at first it was one fish that had wrapped itself around his other line. Turns out it was 2 fish!! I reeled the smaller one to the boat and wedged it down in order to grab Cueball's big fish. I was able to get both hands in his mouth and load him in the boat. Weighed and measured him and released him back in good shape. The fish was 40 pounds and by far Cueball's personal best. We marked this spot on the gps, fished a while longer and headed in. Fish was caught in 26 feet of water.
