Hello, my name is Ben. Me and my wife just started fishing. We bought a 12 flatbottom and was getting it ready to take out on the lake. Instead we traded for a 14 foot v bottom, but that didnt last because the transom was rotted ( i think we got took lol). On top of that we took it out and we broke down. It took me forever to figure it out. The primer bulb arrow was faceing the gas tank ha. Now we have a 14 foot alumacraft with a 9.9 jonhson. We have fished on the banks, with everybody haveing sucess but me, I am just feeding the fish, they keep taking my bait. I am realy wanting to catch a catfish, so that is my goal. Another thing that scares me to death is the 14 foot boat. I have been reading so many horor stories. We will just be fishing in the lake and staying out of the main channel. I have also read that they are very unballanced from side to side. Oh well, looking foward to reading up on the happings.
Thanks

Hey Ben. i have a 14ft polar craft duck boat. i have been doing alot more fishing out of it this year due to gas prices i can't afford to put gas in my bass boat. i mainly bass fish. but i have been catching cat fish on deep rock walls and by bridges. i really hope this helps man.

Thanks i will give it a try, me and the wife might go out this friday after work if i get my nerve up to take the boat. I was fishing at the lake off the bank in soddy saturday night, people were pulling off the road everywhere like the forth. But again, i was only feeding off my pole. I am using minnows and night crawlers. Tried livers and they keep falling off. I have also rigged my line up so many ways i dont know what is right or wrong. Man it is fun but good night there are so many ways to fish. Love the challenge.

Start watching the threads in fishing reports. There's a ton of great cat fishermen here! might be able to pay some gas and get a decent trip to learn a bit more about it. Just be ready for a good battle...these guys hunt the trophies!

try using a treble hook for the livers. i always freeze mine before i go it seems like they stay on longer. But be safe and good luck!

Thanks for the info on bait and hooks, also thanks to everbody for welcomes. Me and the wife went to the peir at soddy and catfished last night. I caught a catfish and released it. My wife wanted to fish for one, so i baited her up and she got one bigger than mine. LOL, she was fishing with a 29 dollar pole from walmart, and i had to pull it in by hand. She was screaming and about to cry with excitement, while i was shocked we were catching and not just feeding. It just goes to show with the right advise and patcients, anything is possiable. Thanks for this awesome site and members willing to help out and not with hold all the secretes.
