Can anyone give me some insight on fishing with an unbrealla rig? I am brand new to this idea and would love to learn where and when to use them. Thanks in advance for your reply on this matter.

Throw it everywhere! Reel it slow! Then when you think it is slow go slower! I use lighter wire hooks so I can easily pull off any snag. Be prepared for sore joints! It catches fish for sure! easy way to start is use the flash mob jr kit. Comes with jig heads and baits. I use the jig heads but use fluke jr white ice. get the five wire. You can get it at academy sports online. Bigger version I use one that is identical to the hog farmer on ebay for 13 bucks. Rig it with either big bites cane thumpers or zoom super flukes.

Just remember in Tennessee you can only have three lures with hooks. If you use the five wire, two of the wires cannot have hooks on them if you want to be legal. Make sure the center bait has a hook as it seems that this is the lure the fish hit the most.

Thanks for that info as well sdfd. I thought it was 4 hooks in Tennessee but I'll take your word on it. I look forward to getting out soon and trying it.

Here is a link to an explanation of the umbrella rig regulation. It is from 2013 when TWRA clarified the regulation. http://www.wrcbtv.com/story/16514478/twra-clarifies-umbrella-rig-regulation-for-tennessee-anglers

This is also when the blades started to appear on the arms of the rig. You can have a lure, just not a hook on the other two arms. Some people superglue a bait to a jig head that they have cut the hook off of.

I haven't used it much, just a short time last fall. I am glad that you asked the question, I have had the same question.
