Hello all,

I'm very glad I found this site as it gives me the oppertunity to learn tips and techniques for our local waters. I am in need of some information if you don't mind.

First, some background information. I am a 31 yearold husband and father of two, soon to be 3. With a 4 year old girl, a 19 month old boy and a wife that is 20 weeks Pregnant. I was raised in Harrison and spent my life fishing for Bream, Shellcrackers, Catfish and Bass. Last year I decided that I wanted to try my hand at Crappie and i love it, but I am not very good at it yet. Here is what I am needing info for:

I do not own a boat, I do 95% of my fishing from the bank. I'm looking for good areas to find Crappie from the bank. Preferably in the Harrison, Wolftever, Birchwood areas. What are goo baits to use. I do like live minnows, but am also interested in jigs, tube baits and roostertails and such. This time of year should I be looking in shallower waters in the 3 to 6 feet range, or deeper?

C'mon, take someone under your wing and teach. I guarentee to pass the information on to 3 others eventually.

Welcome to CFF... I am not local to the area, and don't have any information for you. Really soon someone will respond to you with some quality information.

I recommend using the search engine as well. JSV does a lot of crappie fishing from the bank, so search his name under fishing reports, you should find some good stuff!

emoWelcome . I bank fish myself, but I don't fish in those areas. The crappie are pretty shallow at this time,so bank fishing shouldn't be a problem. I like to use tube jigs, all sorts of colors w/ a 1/32oz jighead. Just cast it out and reel it in slowly, just keeping it off the bottom. Some of these other fine folks can hook you up with some places to fish from the bank for the crappie. I just bank fish below the Chick. dam and I rarely catch crappie back there.

Oh, I forgot, Should I be looking for structure, like brush, docks, or Rocks, or a sandy bottom?

Definately. Structure is always a good thing for some crappie.emoThumbsup

Double .. welcome. You can find some good crappie fishing over at Harrison Bay State Park. I'm heading that way tomorrow after work! Last year that was very productive and with the spawn on ... I'm sure its that way right now as well.

I used minnows under a floater last year. Caught many ... most keepers. Good luck.

TT

That's a pretty extensive area. I know we don't like to give up our "holes", but could you be a bit more specific? Also, let me know how you do after you go, as I'm planning a trip Thursday after work.

There are a couple of coves around the tennis court that have been good in years past. Fish around the houseboats that are docked just before you get to the boat ramp area. I used to catch a lot of crappie from the bank back in the days before BT. (Bass Tracker Pro Crappie)

emoWelcome If your around the Harrison area, you might want try the Skull Island area. I've been fishing around the Chester Frost area, but I've heard tale that they've been tearing up the crappie over at Skull Island the last few days. The folks I've talked were floatin' minners and tossin' a few jigs. They said both were productive.

Go early in tha AM to Chester Frost Park. Go into the camping area and find the little wood dock and fish from it. It is located on the side of the camping area facing to boat ramp across the bay. Float minnows and toss small tubes and/or grubs. There are several stumps in that area that usually hold some good crappie.
