With all of the people discussing what our next gathering could include, the predominate topic I have heard is a tactics night. After meeting and discussing fishing with many of you last night, the wealth of knowledge, here among friends, is nothing less than phenomonal. I would like to pose a question to what our next topic of discussion would be. So CFF, what do all of you want to see in another BBQ/Social/ (and what we tell the wives) study???
My thought was to have a couple of the "fishing masters" behind the scenes share the four seasons, and good, sound fundamentals/tactics for the corresponding season. And of course being a member of this forum, there are certain "masters" that we would like to hear speak. You know the guys who have fished these waters for 20 - 40 yrs and won't say a word!!!! And answer our questions. We could assemble their "basic season chart" in a spreadsheet, ahead of time, that we could hand out for reference for years to come. Just an idea.
DrumKing - Crappies - 15 min presentation. 10 min Q&A.
EricM/RSimms - Catfish - 10 min pres/10 min Q&A
2jigs/BPrice/JMax/Wormhook - LM Bass/Spots - 30 Pres/15 min Q&A
Doc/Hal - Sauger/Walleye
DHaun/BigfishGuide - Stripers
? - Smallmouth
Each presenter could have a table in the back for questions after their presentation, and we could have examples of rigs, lures and setups that not all of us are familiar with. A fundamentals. Some may throw all kind of plugs, but look at the tube post and the response there... something like that post that is as educational to everyone.
Just thinking out loud. I love to help and want to start a conversation and looking for collaboration. Pollo and MadBomber do a great job with the setup and framework. Let's keep it going... Tony is that place available again?

Who wants hot sauce at the next meeting?

NA, you are a glutton for punishment, you would do anything now just to get another sample of that BBQ hot sauce.

When and if we have another map study, lets make it on a friday or sat. nite, the crowd will double or triple, also get a hands free mic hooked up to an amp, a few of us older ones have bad hearing and it would help a bunch.

I would be willing to participate, and do anything I can. Just set the date early so I can get off of work, and clear my travel schedule.

I could do a Guntersville 411 or something...

Great thought! It would really have to be broken up into multiple sessions because each presentation would take considerably longer than you imagine. I made a presentation for a sportsman's club and the time flies by - you'd be amazed at how 30 minutes hardly scratches the basic tactics for any species. The black bass session would be the largest draws and should probably be presented by tactic - topwater, bottom (jig, worm, etc), crankbait, etc. I would imagine, and no offense intended, that many of those interested in bass tactics don't have more than a passing interest in the other species so I would consider having the bass presentations in one session and the multi-species in another. There are many of us who would attend multiple sessions, but I hate to spend a lot of time boring folks who came for bass with catfish or crappie tactics. Let's kick it around - it's a great social time too!

I know fishmedic wanted to come to the map study but did not get a chance. If someone gets another meeting up someone drop him a PM. I may come with him also.

I'll second that motion. emoGeezer I was wanting to come so bad last week and was planning to when it was briefly scheduled for Thursday night. However, with it being changed to Wednesday night, I was unable to come due to it being a church night.

I need to learn to read a lake map and I know you guys could teach me.

As for the idea of doing sessions next time. I think it's a good idea. I am primarily interested in bass but I would also enjoy hearing about crappie and cats. Hope I can make the next one.

I could do a show and tell on making crankbaits if any body wants / cares to know ? and of course Im always ready for BBQ emoHungry

More "booth" ideas could be knots, and tackle application. I use the same basic set-up as EricM for cats, but instructions via e-mail were fruitless! Once I saw it in person, it all clicked. He also showed me how to snell-tie hooks, what a benefit the way we rig for cats, ESPECIALY when fishing with kids. You loose a lot, and with all your stuff pre-tied, it is quick work.

Dickey is the "knot master" from what I am told. Attaching different diameter and material lines together, that kind of stuff cant be learned as well from a book!

A perfect example is the sauger, jig-head with trebble hook post. Pics are 100% better, but in person would be awesome.

Good... I agree with you EricM, I was trying to give shape of the meeting more than an agenda that we would stick with. Spring is coming up. We can discuss springtime and what the migration will be for the different species, then how, what, when and why? But from what I am hearing here and in PM's is location of where to have the meeting. I had posed the question to Tony what is the availability of that particular location we held it at the last time? And if not there, then where? We need to nail down a centrally located place. We could do Bass first, since that is a major draw. Then move on to crappie/bream/panfishes and so on. But I do think including tables set up in the back for an "expert" to be available for questions, and have examples of setups is a good addition to the format. A lot of that can be covered in the before and after presentation times.
And Doc, if you ever see me taste that stuff again, just go ahead and slap me! That stuff ain't right...

Maybe for entertainment Cheez, HL&S and Gator could do song?

The only thing Yankee in me may be the wife I brought back with me... I was Tarheel born, I was tarheel bred... and when I die, I'll be TARHEEL DEAD! Grew up in Asheville, NC fellas. Don't let FA fool you!!!emoUSA

We actually had a "demo" session like this last spring. TT made some BBQ and we all got together at Harrison Bay. Liveliner and EricM showed everyone how to use the cast nets and Drumking showed his "dock shooting" technique. We all had a blast, and it was important to have it outside so we could all see the various demos.

that's great! John Faulkner had my boys doing the shooting thing in his garage in about 5 minutes which I thought was awesome. They took to it like a duck to water. So, you guys start telling me what topics are your favs in order. Then who would you like to have speak to each topic. For example, I'll try first:

1. Springtime Feb to end of April. Bass. Get 2jigs,Brandon, wormhook, HL&S and see what they can share!
2.Stripers - DHaun, Bigfishguide - rigs and patterns.
3. Crappies - Drumking, John Faulkner
4. Catfish - EricM, MrWiskers, RSimms
5. Sauger - Doc, Hal

Sounds great.....Sorry I missed the map class, Ya sound like you got it comming togrther, count me in on the next event...emoHungry emoHungry

Sounds like a great plan. You might want to add SMALLIES to the list and I know Richard Simms would be excellent at that.

Absolutely smallies! I think it would be very popular. Some of these sessions need to include live bait tactics too, especially rigging and fishing below dams. Now that we're hitting so many facets of the local fishing, maybe we could look at doing videos and posting them (or links) somewhere here.

As I said at the Map study Wed. My plan was to have another meeting in the next few weeks and plan for it to cover the prespawn, spawn, and post spawn periods on the maps. Where bass might spawn, stage, and be after the spawn. If someone wants the topic to be something else or wants to have a different meeting at another time that's fine with me. I would love to have someone like Andy Morgan, Jay Kendrick, or another of the locals that have done well on the Pro tours come in and talk with us for a night. If anyone knows one of them or if they are a lurker and wants to shoot me a PM that would be great. A free meal and great fellowship is about what I would be able to guarantee for the time but I know that it would be worth it. If we wanted to talk about multiple species that would be okay but I would expect that the discussion of the bass by it's self would/could take the time that we would have. tso said that the club could be available and fishinpreacher said that Greenwood Baptist Church would be available. I might do the next one that I do there as it's close to Harrison/Ooltewah and Cleveland and Hixson is a long drive for guys/gals living up there. It would be good to have get togethers in different parts of town as it might give locals in the area a better chance of getting there. Just a thought. It would be fun to have a schedule of speakers maybe bimonthly. Too many and the numbers might not be as good. If anyone knows a pro that would be interested in giving a talk about the prespawn to post spawn period for bass fishing have them send me a PM. Thanks.
