Most of you know that I manly fish for crappie, Yesterday after school I had a couple of hours so I was going to try some new fox hair jigs I purchased on the internet. There were a few guys there and said that the fishing had been good but, it was really slow right now. I tied on one of those jigs and bam on the first cast a nailed one. My first 10 cast produced 8 crappie. None of them were keepers.emoLaugh I was using a black head orange body and brown & white tail. Then all of a sudden it slowed down for me. I never go to the bridge with out a few minnows so I decided to try one. The fish liked minnows for the moment. and my crappie started getting bigger and had four keepers in about 15 min. Fishing slowed down again. So I changed back to jigs. This time I was using a black head red body and a brown tail. I cast it out and whe it was about two feet from the bank that big bass hit that jig! At the time I did not know it was a bass. I thought a it was a huge crappie or a catfish. I never thought a bass would hit a crappie jigs. When I finally got him to the top we could see it was a nice bass. I was afraid it was going to break my line. I was using two pound test on a ultra-lit rig. The guy fishing next to me came over and gave me a hand and lipped it for me. We sat there and admiring that fish for few seconds and wondered what it weighed. He was guessing 4 lbs & I was guessing 4.5 lbs. When I crappie fish I dont carry any scales so we really did not know what the fish weighed. So I decided to go to Hamiltons Sports shop and we weighed the fish. It was 5.25 lbs. This fish was still in good shape so I went back to the bridge and put it back in. I kept the four crappie.
