I did not get to fish on Saturday. Our youth group had a youth Rally at the church which turned out to be very succesful. I did manage to go Sunday morning before church here's the report. Sunday Morning March 5th. Water Temp 49 deg. F. The bait was extremely hard to get this morning. Took me about a hour and a half just to get bait. I believe because the water has warmed up that the bait has moved to a different location from my normal cast netting spot and the bait is getting livelier and quicker. But I finally got the bait and went fishing caught 5 or 6 spotted bass of the 2-3 lb range and caught 2 smallmouth one dink and one giant I will post the photo. The smallmouth weighed 6lbs. 4oz. I took the photo and released the fish back. The fish was absolutely beautiful. The colors on the fish were just spectacular. Browns and yellows and golds that you just dont see in the photo. I broke off and lost two other giants. Hope this report helps. The bait situation has me concerned but I will find them.

Just because I'm here, I'll answer for Berry. He caught a potential state record spotted bass. See this thread: http://www.chattanoogafishingforum.com/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=1017&posts=9
He tells me it has been examined by TWRA fisheries biologists, however they had to collect tissue samples from the fish and send them off for DNA analysis. They want to be absolutely certain it's not a hybrid before certifying it as a state record. He says he thinks it will be about two weeks before the results are in. Wish him luck!

Looks like you figured out the pic resizer Captain - Great Report and awesome fish! I think its great you released it!

Do you ever have any luck night fishing for bass along the walls?

I have not tried it at night. If the fish are there during the day they should be there during the night. Might be a good time to get a big fish. I may have to try the night time bite down there with some live bait. The problem with fishing at night is that I'm not as young as I use to be and the recovery time is twice as long. So I may have to limit this to a Friday night / Saturday morning and catch up on the sleep on Sunday.......If you know what I mean....

a friend of mine several years back caught a 6 lb spot and had it certified by TWRA. after the tissue sampoles came back it was declared a smallmouth. It had every marking of a spot and was green as a guntersville LM. I would bet that this spot will have the same fate. Lets hope not.

Nice fish.
