Fished below Nick-A-Jack dam on Saturday and Sunday Saturday first. Got there early we were first in the parking lot. And I usually get there before day light my partner and I went and got some bait. The bait was so thick in one spot I know that Its 15 feet deep but the depth finder was showing 4 and 6 feet deep I threw the cast net and caught approx. 3 or 400 shad. To many to try and keep alive. We drifted the bait around the walls and waited for TVA to turn some water on. My Partner caught his personal best Small mouth it weighd in at a whopping 7lbs 6oz's I thought the fish was about 5 or 5 1/2 we put it on another boats scales and then put the fish on my scales and it was only an ounce difference. TVA fired up the generators and we went to work at trying to catch some Hybrids and Rocks. We caught 4 or 5 with my partner catching the biggest (I'm going to have to start charging him) After TVA turned the water back some and the Stripe would not cooperate for us we went down river and caught about 10 spotted bass no giants just 1 to 3 lb size. Sunday same scenario for the bait I caught a Spotted bass the weighed in at 4lbs. 8oz. My brother-in law came down with his boat after TVA turned some water on and caught a pig of a rock. I will include a photo of his fish. I trolled around some and caught some small ones but not like the fish my brother-in-law caught. The fish are there you just have to move around and find them and if you catch one stay with it and make another pass or two through the same area. The fish are moving around and following the bait. The fish may be 10 feet left or right of your boat just fish it slow and thoroughly. I need to get myself one of the CFF stickers for my boat and all of you other guy's do to. I thought that I had seen a couple of your faces before but I was not sure to ask or say hello or what. I guess I was afraid of labeling the wrong person. Sorry about that Dhaun.

Now that's what I call a great weekend. Great report too. Looks like I'm gonna have to break out the cast net and quit working so much.

BigFishGuide,

DHaun and I were debating whether that was you... we should of said something... i guess its just one of those things... great fish man.

Hopefully Minner and I will be out there Sunday... if so we'll be in a white 19' Kenner. Maybe it'll work out where we can go.

Was that you throwing the umbrellas? I was in the red G3. DHaun was in the brown G3. Man those are some really nice fish. I was watching my fish finder and in some places I noticed the same thing, water 20 feet or more, then all the sudden 6-8 feet for a couple of seconds and back to 20. So thats probably bait huh? I really need to learn how to use those fish finders better, I only look at the depth and water temp. Great pictures and reports, keep em coming.

I wasn't sure if you recognized me Sat morning either. We came right around the lock and eased up to ask if you were getting the bait in the usual spot. I think that was about when that big smallie hit. We were at the wing wall mostly after that. I know your brother-in-law, we met down there 4-5 years ago. His boat gave me the basic ideas of what kind I wanted for fishing down there. I was wondering where he was on Sat, since I usually see him every time I go this time of year. We prob. left before he got there.

BFG, I talked a few times to a fella in a Tracker V18 yesterday that said he was a friend of yours. I was hoping you would post the picture of that giant Smallmouth that he told me about. I recon that was the one in the above post. Did you say that it was caught before the generators were cut on? Do you mind telling me your method of catching your bait, DHaun gave me a crash course yesterday in net casting, do you get yours in the dead lock or what?

I use only my live-well in the boat but add salt and am constantly changing out the water...After 4 hours on Saturday I did not loose one bait...Don't overfill the livewell with bait...just keep 2 doz or so MAXIMUM unless you are filtering the water...For stripers keeping the bait lively is a big key to attracting the big ones.

Yes that is what I mean by changing the water...just every hour or so...lower the water level and then refill. In the meantime every 15 min or so, just kick on the areator to give them some fresh water...As far as salt, it helps to keep the slime on the fish and they will live longer...throw a 1/2 cup in your live well and that will do the trick.

I use Kosher Salt..works great...I have it in a Tupperware container to lock out the moisture. I'm telling you, the stuff will keep you bait in better condition. I have never used Rejunivate, what are the ingrediants in it?
