Fished down below Nick-A-Jack Friday afternoon with my son. We saw Dhaun and Flip1up fishing and spoke with them for awhile. I was basically scouting around for some live bait. TVA has cut the flood gates off and the bait fish have moved on me and it's been getting harder and harder to get. But I did not find any bait Friday night so my son and I crappie and sauger fished. Caught 3 crappie and 1 sauger. We stopped by sonic to grab a bite to eat and he was so tired he fell asleep in the floor in front of the heater with his hand in the sonic bag.

Saturday mrng. Took a client who had never sauger fished before and we caught about 50 sauger all day. We were the first there in the parking lot and the last to leave (12 or 13 hr fishing day). We had 13 keeper sauger. Most fish were caught either by jigging a jig with a stinger hook (no particular coler seemed to be better than another at least not yet) or either the fish were caught by dragging a minnow on the bottom. Caught lots of bream on the dragging pole. I did see one boat keeping illegal sauger. I told him they had to be 15" but he continued putting 12 and 13" sauger in the livewell. He put in down at the South Pittsburg boat ramp just in case the GW (game wardern) was at the shellmound boat ramp checking. TWRA does on occassion check for short fish there at the ramp. But I was afraid since I was the only one there besides me and him I would not be able to keep tires on my truck or trailer seeing as I had already drew his attention to the fact that the fish had to be 15" long for him to keep them. I'm proabbly going to file a complaint with TWRA with his boat number that way they have it on file. That's all I know to do at this point.

Fished Sunday mrng. before church. Caught 2 smallies and 3 or 4 spotted bass before I had to go. Broke off on 3 fish and had another 4 or 5 pull off. (The pull offs were due to the bait being so BIG) The biggest smallie weighed in at 5lbs 5oz. The other spots and smallie were all about the same size 3 to 3 1/2 lb fish. All fish were realesed to be caught again. Flip1up here's a pix of the smallie that pulled off looked like he had a jiggig spoon trevel tear mark in the side of his mouth.emoBigsmile

Great report BFG... Looks like this is the year of the sauger, lots of good fish being caught. I hate to hear about the poaching. Minner said there was some of that going on at G'ville Dam the other day. People wonder why these fish run hot and cold so much. Minner and I are going to take a night trip to G'ville Dam tomorrow after work, so hopefully we'll bring home some eaters.

Good job, and great report!

Great report, BFG. I'm glad that you turned in the boat number to the TWRA. They may get away with it for now, but the day will come that they will have a dozen or so undersized fish and get to pay high dollar for them. Plus lose their liscense if all us honest fishermen are lucky.emoGeezer

My partner and I witnessed the same thing in Mullins Cove a couple of winters ago, a small green boat with this guy in it was keeping all bass most of which were 10-12" and we was a very regular in that area. We reported him to the game warden however I dont know that they ever attempted to catch him. we also has a few run-ins with Duck Hunters shooting at us. I called Mike Bailey at home and got a smart-alec answer out of him. I then sat down and wrote to the TWRA HQ a very lengthy detailed letter.....no reponse, nada, zip....

To the Game Wardens that patrol Marion Co..SHAME ON YOU.....

And they wonder why they catch so much grief........

Those are some very nice Jacks there. Good job. Nice Smallie too, I had a big fish break me off at the wing wall before DHaun got there, I recon I told you and thats what your referring to. It was a runner too, Bass or Striper I think. I cant wait to get back down there, looks like Thursday maybe. Got to try to find some fish on the Chick. friday. Great report BFG. That picture of BFG jr is priceless.

I agree .. the tuckered out fella's picture tells you how hard you all worked at fish nabbing!!! I'm surprised the drink is a sonic slushy .. after freezing your butts off I would have thought hot chocolate would be more appealing!!!

What a nice bag though ...
