catch1maybe ( new user here), and myself snuck off from work Monday afternoon to go fish awhile. We put in at suck creek and went up river to about the bend and fished our way back down. We caught about 15 bass, mostly spots and a few largemouth. Nothing over 13 inches, but I did catch two huge flatheads. The first one was about 39 inches long and I recon weighed around 40 pounds. The second one was a little smaller, but still 30+ pounds. That second fish did something I have never had happen to me. I got a hit on the jig, set the hook, spun the handle a few times and realized I had a small fish on. All the sudden it took off, almost pulled the rod out of my hand. It was a great fight for a few minutes, when I got the fish by the gills and pulled him in the boat, my jig was through a 10 inch spots mouth and in the flatheads mouth also. We had a good time and it was a nice night until it turned COLD as heck and we decided to leave. Fished from about 6-10 p.m., he mostly used a watermelon worm and I was flippin a jig also in watermelon.

Nice report! I bet that flathead was fun when it hit the lil spot!!! Fishing just banks, or holes in river?

We were fishing breaks on the riprap, anywhere there was an ambush point. The bass were on wood and rock, just could not find any with size. I probably flip a jig 80% of the time that I fish and have caught alot of cats and drum over the years, but I gotta say that when I get either of those on this section of the river they usually are very big, alot bigger than I use to catch in other lakes/rivers.

Great Report flip1up! I am gonna have to try that part of the river myself someday. I have fished the bend but not the stretch above the suck creek ramp. I can't remember, is there a light anywhere near the ramp at night??

Yes there is a light. The ramp is pretty good too. When the water is down its a little tricky, but still no problem to launch. When I first moved here ( Oct. 2003), somebody warned me of vandalism at that ramp, but I have fished several nights and never had anything messed with. Could be my stuff aint worth messing with though. Do you like to catch catfish? If so send me a message I know where some big ones hang out when the water is right. My schedule never seems to correspond with the generation schedule.

I dont mind saying it here, Its no secret Im sure. When there not generating below Chick. dam, those concrete holes behind the generators have had alot of cats in them every time I have tried them. Shiners, skips, minnows or even night crawlers have worked well for me. If there not in one move to the next. My son got one about 30 pounds last time I took them. Thats where my boys wanted to go this past saturday but the wife had my truck in Murfreesboro so we had to go off the bank.

Sounds like great fun. I catch a few flatheads every year on jigs also. In fact that's the way I fish for them all of the time when I'm targeting them. I usually use a crawfish trailer and they usually hit on the drop off a bluff bank for me.
