Nickajack 11/3 with Davo....

Davo and I got on the water right at 7:30 or so and began the day throwing buzzbaits, spinnerbaits and even a few rattle traps. Not a thing!!! Well we came to a spot with a little mat, that was calling my name ( it wasn't very big and it was isolated) . My first cast with the swamp donkey and I got hammered!! He missed it, I threw back and he missed it again, Davo threw at him and he hooked him ( we think) , because the bass flew 3 feet out of the water towards us and was not on his line. I decided to throw back in there and what do ya know, I finally hooked and landed a very nice 2.5lb bass!!! On the next mat. Had a couple good bites on it, but only landed 1 small ( maybe a keeper) bass. Our next stop, Davo's frog gets demolished by a good 4lber!!! Took a picture and let her go. In the same general area Davo caught 2 more smaller ones. Our next stop was the long stretch of mat heading towards Sullivan's ramp. Had some really nice blow ups, but nothing landed. ( theme of the day!!) Now we moved to Mullin's Cove. We worked our way through a mat ( so we could get further back, where hopefully know one had been before). We found a bunch of hungry fish!! I landed another 2lb fish, and suddenly our frogs were getting beat up pretty good! But... we didn't land any of them!emoBang Some would only hit once and some would would come back several time, but never get hooked. After that area slowed, we moved further back and found even more fish, that didn't want to be hooked!!emoBadLanguage Now we moved further back in Mullin's and found a big isolated mat. Right away I hooked a fish ( pulled off) and right after that, I see Davo Darn near get pulled in the water!!! Just as fast as that happened, i see him falling backwards because the fish pulled off!emoDoh My next cast after that, I get a huge blow up!!! Nothing... he wouldn't come back!!! This went on around the mat, until Davo finally got one in the boat. A good 3.5lber. Now on to another mat. Not much happening. Davo had a fish miss his bait 4 times, so I threw in there and landed a small ( non keeper). My next cast I have a good one unload on my bait ( guess what happened.. yep, you guesses it.. missed my bait and never came back!!). Ok..on to the next mat. Very little happening until Davo had a fish kind of roll underneath his frog ( of course it never came back). Few minutes later a bass actually came up right behind Davo's frog, it was like it just wanted to say hello!! It was slow motion! It's head and most if it's body came straight up and was almost looking at us!!(really weird) Oh, and no it didn't come back! emoBooHoo . I think that was it for the day!! We hit a could more spots and of course had some hit and misses. I think the total bass landed was 9 with the best five being close to 13 lbs. Total missed 20 or more!!!!! With the best five going for more than I would like to think about!!!emoOffTopic . Anyway.. had a good day. We laughed, we cried and at the end of the day we came to the conclusion that we have known for a good while now...We Suck!!!!!!emoApplause ( I have pictures, but can't downsize them, maybe Davo can get them on here)

fishinvol i think weve all had days like that were the fish would blow up on a frog but couldnt get most to eat itemoBang but it sounds like you had a good day.better than haveing to spend your saturday on honey do listemoAngry its driving me crazy reading about the frog bite and not being able to get on the lake.leave a few for me.

Yeah I think we know how you felt yesterday. The bite was definitely off. You could get the blow ups but the fish didn't realy want it. I would like to learn how to read this early in the day & know what bait to go to then. Maby the senko or traps on the grass lines? Maby thats when you need to be throwing the SB's & shallow CB's

? Hmm, I guess that why they call it fishing

Fishnvol - Nice descriptiive report. Feel free to email me those pics and I'll post them.

Next time you all go I would like to see what the remains of a manhole size mat blowup looks like (saw Davo's version) so please take a pic of that too JTF says throw a worm in after them when they do that. I can see how you can get used to fishing like that - Sounds like a really fun pattern to fish.

I've tried the worm thing and it does work when the hole is close enough to you. yesterday a lot of our "blow up" holes were to far out to pitch a worm. Not to mention, between Davo and myself we are two of the laziest bass fisherman you'll ever see.emoBigsmile Once we get a pattern going, we won't change for anything.( one of the many reasons we suck so bad!!) I'll get those pictures to you in a bit. Oh and I'll be glad to take some pictures of some of those big ol blow holes. I'm telling ya, when the mats are on, you can't beat the explosion you get from a bass on a frog!!
