Well, you've all seen Exodus' (Rob Frost) reports. He's new in town and was struggling to find a place to fish, ways to approach the river and lake, patterns, lures, etc.... I can relate! It was just 12 mos ago that I moved here and it was due to my joining CFF that I have learned SO much about the TN River fishery and our great community. So, today I gave a little payback in the spirit CFF was intended. For it was people like Pumpy, Blazer, 2jigs, BOTW, EricM, DK, Polo, Doc1, DLancas, FA, John Faulkner, Doghouse, Flip, Billy, Spur, Cheez, Bluebyeyou, MrSimms and many others that have enriched my life - not just for fishing I might add.
So, I reached out to Exodus due to the fact that I identified with his plight so easily. I didn't know JACK about this place a year ago. We agreed to meet below the RR bridge at Riverpark. He was throwing top water and catching a few slicks. I didn't even carry a rod down. Told him to jump in the car and we'd go ride around and I'd show him all of Spurhunter's favorite bank spots!!!! emoPoke emoLaugh We went from the dam all the way to HBSP and back to Chick park where we finished off by fishing for about 45 min. His eyes were wide open saying things like "I had no idea..." "Wow! There are SO many places!" We did throw a worm and a spook at Booker T, with only one swipe at the spook I was throwing. Rob is an avid angler and we related our midwestern fishing experiences. I tried my best to share my insight on my last year here and what I could relate to shorten the learning curve for him. We stuck with what we started up at Booker T, I throwing a big black spook and he throwing a 7in ribbontail, pumpkin powerworm, wieghtless. My secret bait of the last two months. We walked down to the park and I snag a slick on the first cast and miss a few more. I tell him where I.... okay where Louie catches most of his fish and yeild those spots to him so he can catch a fish. About three casts later, he yells to me "I GOT A BIG ONE!!!!!!" You can hear the drag screamin' on my Shimano I had already rigged and put in his hand when we got to the water. A big 'ol bass jumped clear out of the water about three times! NICE! Now Rob has an audience of about 10 people running up behind him to see what he's hooked. I too was heading over there to get a pic for this post. Not sure who was more excited... he or I? He was shaking.... "It's HUGE MAN!!!!" I talk to him and encourage him to get down the rocks so he can lip him right and not let him get off. We need a pic of this puppy... He was literally shaking like a leaf. His eyes were as wide as they can be and he had this HUGE grin on his face. emoBigsmile I was tickled pink and really glad that he caught a fish, but a bit torn that I hadn't taken the worm! I mean why can't this guy throw a baitcaster anyway!?!?!?!? emoPoke We take a couple of pics, kids were running from all directions to touch it, see it and ask a bunch of questions of him, but he just couldn't say a word. I told them he caught it on a corndog and that thoroughly confused the small crowd until we could slip back to fishing and get away. I told him to throw it back so it wouldn't get stressed and quick. He did, then looked up at me like a kid in the candy store. "That's my biggest bass of my life! Seriously, I've never caught a bass like that." I showed him how to rig that worm back and told him to go get another one. And he did. We stood there only about 45 min and each caught several nice fish and a handful of slicks. Got too dark for pics and we left after we had to walk up to the street light for the last pic and on the next cast I lost my shaky head in the rocks. Really great meeting Rob, he's an awesome young man. Has his priorities straight and is a proud husband and father. I encourage you all to take him out and BLOW HIS MIND! What a ball we had tonight. And definitely hooked another on the TN river. I'll share the bank with you anyday Exodus. Welcome to Chattanooga!
