A buddy of mine and I launched out of Bennett Lake a dawn Saturday for a slow day of fishing. We started out with frogs on the mats and had a few blowups but no hookups. Caught our first fish (14 3/4") flipping the river edge grass at about 8 CST. Stayed with that pattern for a few more hours and caught a 16" and another 13" over the next 2 hours. Moved down river near the damn and where my buddy caught a keeper and I got a short and that was it for the day. Got off the water at 11:00 CST.
In my last report I complained about the new Stren Super Braid 40# test breaking twice during hook sets. I blamed the line but have since figured out that it was the tungsten weights that I was pegging to the line with a tooth pick. It was the first time I had used tungsten weights and they must have had a sharp edge and cut the line. I tried tying just a hook on my line at home and could not break the line no matter how hard I set the hook. Put on a lead weight and still could not break the line. Put on a tungsten weight and although it did not break right away it finally did cut through.
Moral of the story - don't jump to conclusions. The Stren Super Braid is OK.
