How about them Vols last night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Awsome game. To bad I was at a wedding for most of it.
Cutthroat great job on the tournament.! Jmax and SStephens thanks for helping out too. I hooked up for this event with Fishheadspin through the Need a Partner board. Joe I enjoyed meeting and fishing with you. We will do again for sure.
I heard someone say at the weigh in "Look at all the bait on the ramp, we should have stayed here" yep, thats what we did for the 1st 4 hours anyway. We started across from the ramp on the rip rap, no bait, no bass. WE soon made it over to some grass and found out real quick were all the bait was. We fished down a good little stretch using spooks, Cutthroat blades and buzzbaits, and frogs. Although, we only caught small fish on the 1st strecth of grass we learn that the fish were really liking the walking action of my spook and snagproof frog. We eventually good in one little spot on a huge mat and proceeded to get a bunch of bites on the rats. I caught the 1st to fish that bit me, 2 keepers. I then lost 2 keepers that I had comeing back to the boat. Fishheadspin soon got a snagproof tied on and caught our 3rd keeper, we called it Nicole Richie. In that one little area we probably had atleast 15-20 looks from bass. Looks as in, blow ups, rolls, kisses, sucks, boil behind the bait, whatever you want to call it that area had some fish in it. Next keeper came from a bass that I saw boil on some bait fish in the scattered stuff. I pitched my baby brush hog to it and the fish ate it immediatly. Around 10:30 the rat bait seem to real die on us, so with our 4 scrawny keepers we head up to Mullins were I caught a few rat fish Wednesday after work. As Davo said it was DEAD. We stayed up there for about 45 minutes. I think I caught one 14 incher on a big worm and that was it. With about 2 hours left we decided to leave the grass fishing behind and fish rocks and wood with jigs and blades. So, we started fishing are way back down river hitting any thing that provided a little shade and cover. I caught #5 out off of some rocks in about 5 feet of water on the ole Sweet Beaver. Not long after I told fishheadspin not to give up on his big jig 'cause he was going to catch our kicker, he rears back into one. Brush is flying, the fish is jumping, Oh its a big fish. No, not really. I thought it was when I first saw it trashing in the brush. Just a healthy 2lber. We were able to cull out Nicole Richie with that bass, alright. And, that was it. No more fish. Back to weigh in to see what happens.
Key Baits and Tackle
Snag Proof Tournament frogs/rats - I was using the purple one with the legs pulled out and rattles insert in the leg holes. I gave fishheadspin my tried and true black/blue one with the legs still intact. 65# power pro braid. Heavy rod of course.
Baby Brush Hog - watermelon candy, 3/4oz pegged tungsten weight, 4o Reaction Innovation hook tied with a snell knot, 65# braid.
Sweet Beaver - Christmas/green pumpkin, 1/4 oz tungsten sinker, 20# fluorocarbon
Fishheadspin Jig - he was flipping some sort of green pumpkin combo. He also had on 20# fluorocarbon.
