Flip1up called me this morning and left a message saying he was going below Nickajack and invited me to drive on down if I could break free. After the rain, wind, and cold front I figured the fishing was going to be horrible so I had decided earlier in the week to stay home and get some work done. I had no intentions of going fishing but by about 1pm work was slowing down and I could not stand it any longer seeing the sunshine out the window, so I packed up my gear and drove on down to Nickajack. I was fishing a spoon jig on Flip's boat by 2pm. Turned out to be a great trip with a good friend. It was also nice to see BigFishGuide and LittleBigFishGuide toughing out the cold with us just before we left....We had the whole place to ourselves...even though the fishing was good for a few hours it was windy and cold.

All fish were released... most were caught on spoon jigs and a couple on minners...there was ice starting to form on the seats when we left about 7pm.

Thanks for the fishing trip Flip1up! emoThumbsup

Today's catch:

6 spotted Bass
2 Crappie
2 Blue Gill
3 Sauger
A nice 6-8 lb Channel cat
4 White bass
1 Largemouth
0 Striper, although we tried for a bit
Something Huge that flip hooked and then pulled loose...The spoon jig had a scale the size of a silver dollar stuck on it...I figure it was a big carp, buffalo or tarpon...:)

You guys had a great day! My off day today was spent doing some maintenance on the boat trailer. Bearings, seals, races, etc... I may get out tomorrow? Thanks for the posting. Did you weigh the lm?

whisler11, We did not weigh any of the fish but we measured the sauger...Flip had the only keeper sauger landed but I think he had one jump off before I got there that may have been bigger.

good report and great pictures... next time Flip, please smile, even just a little bit. Looks as if you all had lots to smile about.... Guys were you all jigging up next to the wingwall???? good job.

Looks like a nice largemouth. Gotta love the jigging spoon. You didn't put those bass in a cooler for tomorrow did you? I may bring a print out of this post for identification.emoPoke

Way to go, David and Flip. Those are great pics and the fish almost made you guys smile. emoSmile Maybe the cold had something to do with it. See you at the Riverpark Saturday.emoGeezer

Yep, we had a great time. I wish I would have smiled maybe it would have stretched out that double chin. It was chilly but not really cold. David is now officially crazy like me in my wifes eyes for fishing in weather like that. As I was waiting on David to get to the ramp I had a small shiner straight down about 14 foot deep, got a good bite, pulled it up and it was a Sauger about 3 pounds or more, reached for the net and he got off. That would have been my best ever. Great trip, thanks for joining me DavidemoCool

Flip, yesterday sure was cold just before dark, but just before dawn this morning when Beetlespin took off doing 70mph down the river in 30 degree weather I had on 2 hats and a cheap paintball mask with the holes taped shut. I can see how some folks might observe such behavior in this weather as a bit crazy...tell your wife she may be right. I can't wait to go back! emoBigsmile

This morning about 7 I went out on the back deck with the dog, it was pretty dang cold out there. I thought of you guys, laughed, then went back and cralwed up under the covers emoPoke

Wow, nice LM and nice big spots too guys. Those spots were really nice. Are you sure that there isn't any rip rap near there? Oh, that's right, only the small spots hang near the rip rap.

That's so they don't get eaten by the numerous Big SpaaaaaaaaTs!!!

The paintball mask works fine. I have all the vents taped shut with electrical tape - I also had on a fleece hat and carhartt wool face mask which also covers my neck. I'm sure it would be much colder using just the paintball mask alone, but I think its well worth the $15 I spent on it off ebay.

I see yall found my spotted bass fishing hole. I think I caugt the fish that pulled off on flip1up. I'll post my report in a little while with a photo of flips fish. BFGjr passed out in the front of the truck once I got some heat on him. I guess the fresh air wore him out. Nice looking fish.emoCool
