Hey everyone, I looking for some info on locking from nick to guntersville, I have locked through from watts bar to chick and was wondering if Nick dam was the same. I know at watts bar theres a pull cord on the wing wall, was wondering if Nick was the same. Any info will help. Also, is the fishing any good below the dam. We were thinking about fishing the big creek about 2 miles below the dam, does anybody have any info on this. thanks, Mitch.

To add to this, I would appreciate it if one of you adventurous, travelling types would, for the benefit of us newbies, describe the procedure for locking through the Chick as well...never done it and would like to know how to get through both...thanks!emoWorthy

I was wondering the same thing! Sounds kind of creepy...LOL

Fishing is awful below the dam right now. To much bait down below even 8 to 10 miles past the dam. I would stay up on the lake. I have had scouts out this week fishing down below Nick this week and all they have caught were drum and catfish. As far as locking through. Pull the cord in the ladder access and always wear a life vest in the lock and below the dam. You will need some type of inflatable boat bumpers or something to keep you off the walls and a good rope and a couple of cleats on your boat. Before entering the Lock the Lock master will sound his horn IMPORTANT. And before you leave the lock he will sound his horn before you can leave. Stay tied up at all times and do not tie off to a permanant fixture of the dam other wise you will be hanging from the dam or your boat pulled under the water. Good Luck!

Locking thru is cool.. Ive even done it with a 4 man raft when I was a teenager.. lil scary though in a pvc raft and nothing but oars! but its still cool, some locks are full of junk.. tires, big pieces of wood some with nails! , keep a paddle handy to push away stuff that may be in the lock from scratching your boat. Ive never gone thru TVA locks .. all the ones Ive been thru where Army Corp of Engineers on the Ohio River and the Monongahela River in WV.. but I'm sure they are all the same.
