I have seen very few rockfish caught since the first wave in March. I went last week after work and figured it would be more fun at the drum rodeo, but after sorting through 5-6 huge drum I hooked up with a drag screamer and knew it was a strong healthy striper. Man those fish are powerful...peeling 20 yards of drag swimming against the current! At one point I was the only boat out below the dam and I must say it was nice and quiet. It may have even contributed to the fishing with no motors running over them.

I know all these fish look like twins but they are all different ranging from 13-17lbs - looks like a few were fat with eggs and shad. All were released and swam away strong. I kept each fish in the water with a nylon stringer while I set the camera up and only took them out for a picture. Water temp was 60-61. I am glad to see a few left down there!

I went back again Saturday seeing RSimms and BFG on their guide trips and caught a 10lber. I hooked up with one much bigger that ended up pulling off. I checked on Tuesday and no sign of them...even the drum had thinned out, however, the gar are incredibly thick all over the river and the blue cats have moved in - I caught eight 15-20lb cats on a spoon.

VERY IMPRESSIVE, You're right about the boat traffic. That water is too shallow for stripers if there is more than a couple of boats running, unless they all follow the same pattern. Man now I'm really torn on what to fish for, on second thought there will be way too much boat traffic this weekend, maybe try'em one day next week after work. Those spoon fed cats could be a lot of fun as well. Thanks for the report emoThumbsup
