It was great to get out on the water last night and to meet jason for the first time. I called him last minute and he was up to fishing between around 8pm to 11:15. We started out fishing topwaters over grass and had small fish of some species hitting but not getting hooked. We caught a couple there, one on a black buzz bait and one on a RR spinnerbait. Many hits were has on a grassy edge and under or near a big ball of bait over 6-9 feet of water but they must have been small. As it got dark we went out to a nearby point/drop and jason caught the biggest fish of the night, a drum on a black spinnerbait. I'd never seen that before and we had a good chuckle about it. We then moved off to a flat bordered by a steep drop and started catching fish. Jason caught one on the first cast with a black spinnerbait and later we caught quite a few on the same bait. The fish seemed to be on the drop in 8 or 9 feet of water. The area that we fished was a broad flat with scattered grass with a steep drop off the edge to 25-30 feet of water. Staying on the drop was a challenge in the dark but it was a beautiful night with no wind to hamper my efforts. We only fished Harrison bay and jason was compromised in that all of his tackle was unavailable so we shared my makeshift tackle. I had a great time and plan to get out with him again, hopefully soon. Most if not all of the fish were bookends between 13 and 15 inches.

Thanks TT, was in Michigan. Fished once there. Didn't have access to a boat but fished two of the "bowls" or natural lakes while I was up there. Couln't wade out 'cause of the muck and so was limited to fishing at the "ramp" which is the public access area that is basically a cut through the weeds out to deeper water. Caught one little bass and had a roll on a topwater but couldn't fish the outside edge of the grass like I wanted to. Had fun though but it's good to be back. Great to be back on the home lake!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I finally got to fish with the man at the top of the "post count mountain"emoThumbsup! For a very, very, very, spur-of-the-moment outing, it turned out rather well. He is easy to talk to and he knows where the fish are. I look forward to the opportunity of fishing with him again. Next time, however, I'm going to buy him some trailer hooksemoPoke!

Welcome home polo. Glad ya'll had a good time. Did you get to fish any of the rivers up there. have heard about the salmon runs for years and wondered if it was worth the trip.

Timing is everything for those runs. In my experience those runs happen in the late fall. My father in law tells me of the steelhead, brown trout, and other species that run up the rivers at that time of the year. I think that in the summer most of the Salmonids are out in the lake following the alwive schools over deep water and not even close to the rivers. I have been around the Wisconsin area in the middle of the summer and the King Salmon were being caught off the jetties that to way out into Lake Michigan but there hasn't been much action in the South Haven Mich. area in the summer in my experience.

Hey Jason how many maps did Polo pull out on ya????emoPoke emoLaugh He likes his maps! We had a map party, which was a first for me, at the beginning of the year at his house and he makes a mean burger. We all had a great time and Polo had more maps than a surveyor. Polo it is about time to have a fall map party. I bet after the last one you would have more show. With 600+ members you might want to do it outside.emoLaugh Jmax

That sounds like a lot of fun. I have a hard time looking at a map and figuring out where to find fish in the fall. However I think that there is a much better chance that a map get together would be more productive as the fish are less mobile and tend to stay in one place for an extended period of time. I will post something to see if there is much interest.

No need for maps, polo already knew exactly where we were going! Hey, a map party sounds cool...I would definitely be interested.
