I have a Z-7 Nitro and need a sonar unit up front. I have nothing at this time. Would like a 5 or 7 series Sonar/GPS with down imaging. Can I mount this in the console up front or will it have to be mounted on the boat itself? I have heard the units with the internal GPS antenea will loose satalite connections if tilted. I am totally lost as to what to do. Should I go with a unit with a puck?

What unit do you now have at the console? If you have a bird in it now you can always interlink it and use the existing puck. Therefore 2 gps units and 1 puck :).. Need more info on what you now have though..

I have a Lowrance 5X which is what the boat came from the factory with. I will be putting a 1198 Humminbird at the drivers seat later on. Can't do both right now.

have 2 hds 7 and structure scan for sale just pm me if you are interested have lake insight on both

I have a 788 mounted on my bow. It has an internal GPS receiver and it stays tilted so the screen is facing up and I have never had any issues. I have never lost GPS never loses signal.

THe 500 and 700 Series Humminbird fir the manufacturer cut-outs. The Internal Receivers are now facemount and designed to be indash mounted and will work fine on the bow.

The Big difference is if you want to network. 500 Series do not have any Networking Capabilities. THe 700 Series can network via InterLink or the 700 HD Series can use Ethernet. Ethernet is a single cable and easier and less expenses to network. IF you want Down Imaging get the 788 HD DI. Other features the 700HD Series over the 500 Series. Contour XD Base Maps, 2 Card Reader Slots, 3 Favorite Presets.
