Hey guys, I have a motor with no fire at the plugs, lanyard is in place, I disonnected the stop wires at the motor and still no fire on the plugs, any ideas on what I am missing. my next step I think is to remove the control box on the boat and see if I can bypass the kill switch some how. Thanks in advance for any help you can give This motor is on a 24ft pontoon boat

The ignition system is called a ADI. Altenator Driven Ignition. It has been around for a long time. The stator provides the voltage that is stored in capcitors and then the trigger sends a low voltage to a transitor that toggles the capcitor and send the stored voltage to the positive side of the coil and it fires. When you turn the key off you are shorting the voltage that is going to the transitstor and this causes the capcitor from toggleing thus ignition stops. There are several easy test to do on it. You can unplug the wiring harness and jump the starter and see if spark resumes or is still not present. The only thing the engine needs to run is fuel. It is all self contained, It will need the connector connected to stop the engine.

Here is a troubleshooting manual that has some test in it. These test will require a special tool called a peak voltage adapter. It is used with a multimeter to get the readings of the voltages that are actually being produced. Some test will only require a multimeter to get ohm reading. In my experiences I have had componets test good using a ohm test only to find it fails a voltage test. I hope this helps! Sorry I don't get on here as much as I used to.

I have made it active. Click on the red box around the page and it will go there. Click on the house icon on top of each page and it will take you to the table of contents.
