i took the boat out today and as i was gettin it off the trailer there was no reverse any thing that i might be able to try to fix it before saturday thanks

Follow the cables from the shiter to the motor. Sometimes the linkage will come lose or drop. It can be put back on and tightened if you are lucky. There is one that is forward and one reverse. I hope that is what it is. emoAngel Jmax

I agree with Jmax, you gotta check your cables at the engine.
I had a motor one time not go in reverse and it was the cables, not the lower unit.
we need more info. is the shifter going into reverse fully or is it binding? are you hearing the clicking sound? did you check the cable at the motor to see if it is moving/engaging?

then you need to adjust your cable to make it move more into reverse. that usually means its not fully engaging into reverse.

Happened to me last year. The lower unit had to be disassembled. It was the last part that came out. Don't know what it was called but it was a U shaped piece that lets the motor shift. Evinrude just sent me a new lower unit, under warranty thank the Lord. When I put mine in reverse I just went forward.
Good Luck

it can be the lower unit is damaged, but it can also be something simple like the cable not engaging all the way or being in a bind. I would start with adjusting the cable and see if that fixes it. then go from there.
