just as i was loading my boat the motor started to rattle real bad . I took the front off of the motor and the rod bearing on # 1 cylinder is shot. this is a 90 hp mariner 3 cylinder early 90s the tag for the serial # is misssing is there any way to date this mortor to order parts.

Mecury ususally date stamps their block so look around and you will see a date like 11-23-89 somewhere. All the crank end rod bearings are the same for they L3/L4 engines. The difference comes when you need a wrist pin bearings and it depends on what rod type you have either top guided or bottom guided. This can be easily identified with the casting number on the rod. Hope this helps!

thanks James I think all I will need is the rod bearings there is no damage on the crank or on the rod the cylinder is not scared and the wrist pin seams to be fine. The bearing looked like it had no lubrication for some reason it was broke in several pieces after I took the caps off.
