This is a serious report!

What a wonderful day I had with Shocker today. First time that I ever laid eyes on Normandy and the first time that Shocker had fished Normandy. So, here comes all the excuses that Shocker told me to make up.

We were fishing for black-nosed Crappie. Nada one came to the boat.
Wind hard out of the north. (1)
Too much fog on the water. (2)
Too many fishermen not catching anything today. (3)
High barometer. (4)
Wrong moon phase. (5) Like that don't you Rsimms.emoBigsmile
Fished wrong creek. (6)
Used wrong lures. (7)
Got up too early. (8)

I did manage to catch 3 ultra small panfish. (1 redeye, 2 green sunfish)
Shocker hooked a good spot and fought that thing for about 2-3 minutes and then let it hang him up in a standing tree in 30' of water. Broke off. I saw the fish, but I'm not sure that Shocker saw it.
I hooked a nice spot in deep water. It ran like a maniac, came up within eyesight, swapped directions, and pulled off. We both laid eyes on it. It was nice.

We fished Riley creek and Carrol creek. We fished about 4 hours total. The beauty of this lake is amazing. I want to go back again under better weather conditions. Standing timber reminds me of some of those lakes in Texas. We used everything that we brought along except the shocking machine. I bet that we would'd had a limit if we had that thing.

A wonderful day of fellowship and being out in one of God's prettier places. Thanks for taking me Shocker. We will go again sometime, my friend.emoAngel emoGeezer

I have been to Normandy twice. The first time was in the fall. The lake is beautiful. Wild turkeys everywhere, no shoreline development, Miles of rocky deep banks. My kind of place. I caught 1 small bass on a worm, but vowed to come back in the spring and beat those rocky banks with my favorite model A Bomber.

Went back in late april, fished all day, caught Nada. I was so disappointed, I haven't been back.

Drumking it sounds like a wonderful day even tho the excuses were rolling. emoLaugh Glad ya'll had a good day on the water. Just hope this weather will keep cooling off and the fish move up! thanks for the report and as always its good to be out in Gods creation!emoThumbsup

Dk, sure wish you had called me about your trip... I probably could have put you on some good fish..... Fished there many times.... caught sacks full... 4 and 5 pounders....emoGeezer

Fisherpal, I had to make at least 8 excuses. Shocker told me that fewer than that would make us look bad. LOL

FA, we were fishing for black-nosed crappie, not bass. Now, if you have been catching sacks full of 4-5 pound crappie, I want you to take me fishing.emoBigsmile Actually, we talked to a couple of fishermen and they weren't doing any good either yesterday. One told us that the crappie had been hitting minnows a few days before, but they weren't hitting anything yesterday. That man's wife had only caught 1 catfish all morning. We didn't bring any bass fishing stuff. Actually, I gave all my bass stuff away to kids and Shocker just had a few jigs.

I believe that we were fishing in a good place. Lots of fishermen were fishing those 2 creeks as well as us, but I didn't see anything caught. Just a bad days fishing, which is still better than a good days work.emoBigsmile emoGeezer

Hey DK, the trip wonderfully planned, it was not the day to catch, it was a day to fish. That trip is what fishing is all about thanks for taking time to go. The excuses were all of what I expected and the time on the water was an experience I'll remember for a while yet. The fellowship was worth the effort of getting up early, and getting to know you better was even more rewarding than catching a good fish. What a good time, and if anyone has the chance for an outting with the King well take it.

Guys, come on. If you're planning a trip to Normandy you must call me, I'm 5 minutes from the ramp. I was out yesterday morning. Up river just past the 4 mile marker. It was a lot slower yesterday. I only caught 3 before I had to go to work. BTW we've been catching several crappie(accidently) on crankbaits on the flat just before Fire Lake bridge.

Is Normandy a clear lake? I know that in the summer at least that in deep clear lakes that unless you fish at night you can really have a tough time.

Polo. it was a little colored yesterday, you could see about three or four feet down, but there was one slough we were in was a little less clear. It appeared it had rained a day or so before we got there. But it is a beautiful lake or what we saw of it. They don't generate power there it's for flood control and recreation. There are very few houses on the lake and none that we saw sitting down on the water, up river may have more houses. It was good to see new water.

Hey, Mr MooseKnuckle no problem. I'll be over there working for a couple days the middle of Nov. I'll pm you and see what your work schedule is maybe we could hook up for an afternoon so something. I was talking to a twra person the other day and they thought the state record spot may be in Normandy.

If I can remember that you are only 5 minutes from the ramp, I'll definitely call you before making another trek across the mountain. What a beautiful lake. I told Shocker that I would love to have several days to fish this lake. I think that maybe I could find some crappie. So much good looking stuff for crappie to inhabit. That may be the problem. So much stuff that it is hard finding the pattern that they are on that particular day.emoGeezer

I use to catch alot of Crappie in Caroll Creek DK. If you take the last left slough, Bobo slough I think its called, when it makes its last sharp turn to the right, fish all that bank from the point on around. There use to be alot of brush there. Your right, there are only a couple of houses anywhere near the water on the entire lake.

We might have been in that cove, Flip. But we fished the left side and didn't make it to the right side. That was just before we called it a day. I hung the spot that I had on about 20 yards from the point and in deep water. Pretty fish, but just as soon as he changed directions and started back down, he pulled off. We were using 2" plastic minnow baits.emoGeezer That Caroll creek surely is a good looking piece of water. The water looked to be down several feet and the standing trees that are dotted in that lake were out of the water about 2-3 feet.emoAngel

Hey guys just giving ya'll a hard time, but definitely pm when you plan on coming back. The closest houses to the lake are in Riley, there's only 4 or 5. No houses to be seen at all up river. The lake is as clear now as I ever remember, and it is down about 6-7 foot.
