We have all done them, you know the ones where you think to yourself, "What was I thinking?". I was just sitting here kind of laughing to myself about a couple me and Derek did yesterday. However I was also thinking about one that Treeman told us on Friday evening.

Apparently at the July night CBA that him and Brad won, they were culling bass trying to get a better limit. Treeman caught a good one and told Brad to cull the one with the (?) color on it. Brad reached in, found the right fish and put it over the side. Problem was Brad never took off the cull ball and hook. emoDoh emoLaugh If you happen to catch a fairly nice bass with a cull ball still connected to it he would like to have it back. (no brainer)

Me and Derek were fishing a point yesterday...as we went around the point a nice bass blew up on my spook. Fought it in and Derek netted it for me. As I reached in and got the fish out I realized the wind had just about blown us up on the point. I turned with my rod in one hand and the fish in the other. Problem was the fish was now dangling over the water as I hit the trolling motor to move us off the point. You guessed it,...the bass shook hard and I lost my grip on the bass, back in the water it went. emoDoh The good thing was it still was connected with the spook and I had to catch it ...again...and Derek had to net it.....again. emoCrazy Derek said it was hard to be my partner when he had to net my bass twice. emoBigsmile (no brainer)

Later that day we were culling another. We knew we had one about 2/2 and I had just caught one that was almost five so we were excited. Derek reached in and released the one that was 2/2 and I tossed the five in the live well. About that time it hit me that the 2/2 which had been in about 15 feet had started to roll so we had put a fish clip on it. emoConfused I asked Derek if he had got my fish clip off the bass before he released it. Nope.....if you happen to catch one about 2/2 with a fish clip on it would you please give it back to me. emoLaugh (no brainer)

Here is one more I will tell on myself but that is it...it is your turn after this. A couple years ago me and WetWillie were fishing the Chick just for fun. I caught one that was very close to being a keeper so I wanted to measure it to see. We were not keeping them but we were keeping track of how many shorts and keepers we boated. I got out my golden rule from the rod box, got the bass and laid it on the rule. Sure enough it measured. I told him it did, stood up with the rule in one hand and the bass in the other. I turned to the water, released my golden rule into the water and turned to put the fish in my rod box. emoDoh emoBooHoo (no brainer)

What about you? We know you have a couple...... emoBigsmile Jmax

This one is hard to believe. 34 views so far and no one has any. I know you do, let's hear them.

Here is one I watched. I had just launched my boat. A guy that had just launched his came walking down to the ramp only to turn around and go running back to the truck and back it back down. I looked over at his boat and it was about to sink. He had left the plug out. Then the guys runs over to his boat, jumps in it full of water and drives it back up on the trailer, gets out and climbs back into the truck. Surely....I thought he was not about to drive it back out with all that water in the boat. Nope....he did just that....drove it up on the ramp and just as he got out to look at his boat the tires blew out on the trailer. (single axle)emoBang Talk about a bad day going worse. emoHoppingmad I felt bad for the guy...never had a chance to warn him...he was moving to fast and I just did not think he would do that. emoRolleyes Never drive a boat full of water up out of the water all at once. That is a lot of weight on those tires. (no brainer)

I'll give this as a tip. When you re-tie your nice spinnerbait, don't just toss it in the water. Sometimes it might not be attached to anything other than a few inches of line.

Several years ago I was going fishing solo. It was early March. Back then when I was alone I would clip a rope to the bow eye and tie the other end to the rear guide of the trailer. There was a guy at the ramp that was talking to me about the boat while I got ready to launch. I backed the boat in and tapped the brakes.
The boat slid off the trailer and everything was going fine until I started to pull the trailer out. I forgot to clip it to the bow eye. I parked the truck, walked out the dock peeled off my clothes and went for a swim. Man the freakin water was cold. I am just glad the boat didn't float off any further than it did. I nearly froze. That is the down side of fishing during the middle of the week. Many times there isn't a lot of help around the ramp. I may forget something now but it won't be to clip the rope to the boat.

<font color="#ff0033" size="4" face="comic sans ms,sand">I promise that I did not do this but a friend I was fishing with down at Weiss Lake. We found a good spot and wanted to anchor ....... he had a brand new anchor, so he throws it over the side....and you guessed it...... did not have a rope tied on the thing...... pretty goofy if you asked me...FAemoScratch </font>

Well when I was about 19 or 20 years old I had this old 63 model v bottom aluminum boat. Ugliest thing you've ever seen. My wife, sister, and myself were going crappie fishin one cool crisp winter mornin. I backed the boat in on wolftever ramp. I would tie a rope to the front and let my wife hold it while I backed it in. I was pulling it with my old straight shift Mercury Capree by the way. Well I backed down the ramp and hit the brakes and the boat floated back just like it was supposed to. I put the old car in 1st gear, gave her some gas and eased out on the clutch. I started pullin out of the water, when WHAM! The old car came to a sudden stop. Not thinkin, I let her roll back a little, gave her a little gas, eased out on the clutch. WHAM! I then realized that I had dropped the trailer tires off the end of the ramp. The only thing I could think of was to wade out, pick the trailer up, and let my wife drive it out. She wouldn't do it for fear of letting it roll back on me. My sister wouldn't do it either. There was another guy there who was nice enough to drive it out for me. He wasn't real confident about it either so he had 1 foot on the clutch, 1 on the brake, and was reaching down and givin it gas with his right hand. Well that all worked out ok. So I left the old boat, my wife, and my sister there while I went home and changed clothes. (Man was that water cold). When I came back my wife and sister said "you'll never believe what just happened". They said while I was gone these 2 guys came in it this beautiful shiney new bass boat. One of them got out and went to get the truck to load the boat. He backed the trailer into the water. The other guy drove the boat onto the trailer, kicked back into the seat, threw his arm over the steering wheel and told the driver to go ahead. Which he did. When the boat came out of the water it slid back off the trailer and landed right on the concrete. They said the guys face turned as red as blood and his eyes were as big as golf balls. They said it took 10 or 12 guys to pick the boat up and get it back on the trailer.

I have retied a bait and thrown it over the side of the boat before only to relize it was my line I cut off and not the tag end! I have lost a few baits that way. My Dad also cut off a tag end and then chunked his Case pocket knife in the lake. Another time Dad and I were culling a limit in a Tx when I handed him the smaller fish then I promptly tossed the bigger fish back in the lake!?! And if you haven't tried to launch with your tie downs still on or hit the throttle with the TM down or a anchor out or your plug out, you havent fished very much!

I took my ex girlfriend fishing one night as we were getting to the ramp it was crowded so i ask her if she could drive a 5 speed and she said she could....I had a pntoon and a dodge diesel 1 ton....I lined the boat up with ramp and jumped in the boat. She backed me in and the boat slid off the trailer so i backed the boat out of the way and heard a weird sound, it was the diesel exhaust under water......the water was over the dodge on the tailgate.....A diesel doesnt make power with the exhaust under water so someone tied another truck to the front real quick and started pulling but the axle on trailer was hung on end of ramp...I had a 2 inch wide strap in truck that i finally fished around and hooked end of trailer with and tied to front of pontoon boat.pulled the boat toward trailer and the trailer came up and the truck pulled it out.......Water didnt get in cab but real close.......When we came back to ramp at midnight I heard some kids that were camping say here comes that boat, lets see what they do this time.......Read first line.....EX GIRLFRIEND.....Now I have a stricter interview process for prospective girlfriends...MUST be able to back trailer and pull out........

emoUpsmile Trashtrout, that is a good one, when you said the first line...I thought he was sure a "No brainer" on that one, let the girlfriend back it up.....ah......no way would I try that without me there in the truck the first time. emoLaugh Jmax

I launched my pontoon boat once at wolftever a couple of years ago. There were a couple of people waiting, but not terribly long line. I backed in the trailer and tried to fire up the boat. Nothing but crickets. I tried again...same result. Hooked the boat back up and pulled out of the water.
Grabbed my owner's manual and went to the trouble shooting guide. Doh! It wasn't in neutral. I'm an idiot...lol. Got back in line and launched my boat, but I had to get in the water to unhook the boat. My cell phone was in my cargo pocket and it got submerged. 5 minutes later I pulled my phone out and noticed it was fried. Went back to ramp, loaded the boat, backed it into driveway and got back in bed. I was done trying my luck for the day...lol

Jmax The one Im dating now can back a trailer like its second nature to her...Can shoot docks with the best......She can bust firewood too........She might be a keeper

I was fishing a HBSP tx one day and decided to put my PFD away. Got ready to move and the motor wouldn't start. My partner and I tried everything and it just wouldn't start. Started trolling back toward HBSP but all the way talking about why I wasn't getting any gas. You guessed it, kill switch. Blew an hour + for a dumb mistake. I had to wear the PFD anyway, what was I thinking?

When I was about 14 or so my dad had a 14' Alumacraft that we fished out of. One morning we were running late and trying to get the lake by daylight. As we exited off of I-75 northonto Hwy. 153 I saw my Dad look in the rear view mirrow and he said ohh s**t and started slowing down. I said what's wrong, he said look out the passenger side window and when I did I saw our boat passing us with the trailer tongue up in the air perfectly level and heading for the emergency lane at the Lee Hwy. exit. When the trailer got in the emergency lane it slowed down and the tongue set down like an airplane landingand came to a stopwithout any damage. Dad said, when you hooked up the boat did you put the latch down on the trailer? Of course I said - I thought I did.NO BRAINER!!!!

OK, here goes-
1. The wife and I were fishin Dale Hollow a couple of centuries ago. I was getting ready to tie a black jig on my line when she asked me to do something for her. I tossed the jig over the side and forgot to tie it on.
2. Dad backed the boat in at Harrison Bay. I was in the boat and noticed a lot of water in the boat. Forgot to put the transom plug in! Pulled out- drained the boat and went fishing!

A friend and I were going to the lake(many years ago) in an aluminum boat and looked back and there were flames coming out of the boat! We pulled over and discovered that the side post battery used for fishing light had gotten against a metal sided coleman cooler and set the cooler on fire. we got the cooler out and continued on. Needless to say no more side post batteries.

i put in at holly circle one winter morning, frost was thick on the dock.there was another guy walking up the dock to go pull his truck out and busted his butt.i couldnt help but laugh.as i walked by him to go get in my boat he says, watch out going down to the boat its slick. i made it to the floating part fine, went to step in the boat bam slipped fell into the boat,an broke a rod.geuss thats what i get for laughing. emoBang

Took off from wolftever one foggy mornin. Headed toward Harrison Bay. We got out from under the bridge and hammered down on it. (Bout 20 mph was top speed in that old boat). Fog was so thick we couldn't see 20 feet in front of us. It was well after daylight by the way. I set the old boat down and proceeded on at a fast idle. Bout 5 minutes later we finally came to a rock bank. I told my wife we'd just fish here till the fog lifted so we could see where we were. Well the fog finally lifted and we were about 50 yards from the bridge that we had just left. Man i'm glad I was the only idiot out there runnin around like that.

As for me, my story is about like BRamsey's. We launched one morning in the fog and decided to idle out a ways and just start fishing since the fog was so thick. There was a particular bank close by we wanted to fish, so no problem, just idle over there in the fog and everything will be good. Well we idled toward our bank (we thought) and when we didn't see it with-in the time frame we thought appropriate, we thought well maybe we were just off a little bit. So we kept idling looking for any piece of land and then about 30 minutes later we began to see land ahead. Yep, it was land alright, it was the launch ramp we had left from. All we had done was make a big circle right back to where we started.

I once culled two fish leaving us only 4 fish to weigh in. and we never caught another fish all day. we got lucky and won the tourney with only 4 fish. lol
