Have a 60 hp 94 Mercury Tracker with auto mix.

I found some old posts recommending disconnecting auto mix on older motors.

What about this generation of motors?

I have the tank out and the plastic and hoses look brand new.

I personally don't like mercurys system. They use a plastic gear on the crank and drive a steel gear, I don't know of another. The v-6's are known to strip the gear buring up the motors from lack of oil. I personally have not heard anything bad about the L-3/L-4 engines. Of course your RPM range is not as high as most people turn the v-6's. Hope this helps.

I would either disconnect the oiler or put some real fuel line on it instead of that crap that mecury used. It just gets brittle and falls apart and its to late before you know it. I'm rebuilding a 60 horse mariner 92 model because the oil line was kinked right now. The only reason that mercury used that clear line is so it was easy to bleed.

Thanks guys. That clinches it. She's out of there.

I guess you cut and short the sensor wires?

You would remove the whole system. Putting a block off plate where the pump was and removing the module, sensor, tank, ect.

Spam,
Is the gear on the crank on the 60 your doing plastic? Does the shaft have a guide bushing in the block for the driveshaft??? Most don't have the bushing like a V-6 and don't require a "holder" Just curios if they threw a curve ball.

I'll look at that and pm you cause it might be a couple of days before I get back on it. Gotta get an air filter before I button it up. Went to check the filter and the it didn't have one in the housing. Guy I bought it from must have thrown it away when it got dirty. Oh well...

Marine engines do not have an air filter. No dust and dirt on the water. I'll get back to you on that question wrechin. Block is at machine shop.

Got it over at Dale's?

Well, the statement about a air filter is not exactly correct.... Mercury's DFI (Optimax) and Verado engines use air filters. Some models use a square air filter like a car uses and the other one is a round tube style and the Verado uses a oval type.

Well i should have specified that older carburated marine engines do not have an air filter. Leave it up to mercury to put an air filter on the water. Sounds like something they would do.

My Tracker that I bought last summer has the oil injection. It is a 50hp Merc and the mechanic told me after it is out of warranty (I have a 3yr warranty) that he would suggest unhooking it.
