It was my spring break trip so my awesome mom and I decided to go to Lake Okeechobee to fish for bass.
We used shiners about the size of your hand, they were large! So on the two days my mom and I caught about 15-20 bass together and lost a few large ones, but did catch some nice ones. First I caught an 8pd 3ounce bass and I caught an even bigger one after the first one, 8pds 14ounces. My mom caught her biggest bass ever it was 7pds 2ounces! Im happy for her! Although the lakes water level was really low the fishing was pretty good. Our fishing guides boat hit a rock while riding the lake and it took a big chunk out of his motor but he said it should be fine, he hit it because of the water level. The water where we were fishing was about a foot deep! And even where I fished on the lake 2 years ago was completely dried up and you could walk on that spot! The story is that they thought a hurricane was on its way and it would have been best to lower the water level, so they did. So then there was no hurricane and then they haven't had much rain at all thru the winter. And thats why the water is low.
I had a great time with my mom and she did too!

Here are some pictures(if i can get them on here)

Great pictures there Crazy. I am glad you all had a wonderful time down there. I used to go down and fish out of Lakeport, which is Northwest on the lake. Lots of places to fish down there... I know what you mean when you say the water is down. In times past that can really be a problem...where did you fish and where is the guide located??? FA

The guide was located at Roland Martins and his name was Fred. He was a really nice guy. And not just we but everyone that was fishing on the lake was were we fished, it was just out side of a canal, i think its called windsport, but im not sure. But the alligators were everywere this year! and the gator in that pic is the one that i almost caught, it grabed my bait and i had no choice but to reel it in, but as it came by the boat it came loose, and the gator felt like a big bass it didn't feel like any kind of fish except for a bass, so it was kind of funemoLaugh And the gar and mudfish were biting alot, (ANNOYING FISH!) emoFish

Way to go Crazy! emoThumbsup Don't guess you'll want to waste your time on these little "Chickamauga bass" anymore huh? emoBigsmile

Wow, crazy, those were incredible bass. I didn't see where you said what you were using but I expect that you used golden shiners. Congrats on your big bass!!!

Im not sure but i think the water temp. was in the mid 70s, but it was really windy (can see because of my hair) and pretty chilly! And yes i did use wild golden shiners, they were bigger than what I have ever used in the past, they were about the size of your whole hand! BIG! We also used lures for a while, but not to long because we were using shiners. The first 8 pound bass that i had caught hit my bait 3 times before i hooked it, it just kept on hitting and i couldnt hook it, it used 2 shiners before i caught it.

Hey CBB,

Good to see your great report. Congrats to you and your mom on the awesome bass. I hope you really appreciate your Mom even after the excitement of this trip wears off. There are not many Moms out there who share the experiences with their sons like your Mom has with you, so thank the good Lord above for her!
