I know there is no such thing as a dumb question but............I just purchased my first BASS boat a 96 stratos and it has two lowrance x22a depth finders on it. They both seem to work fine but i don't have a clue what i am looking at other than the depth and pics of little fish on the screen that i am not convinced are fish. I have been doing lots of searching on the internet trying to find info on how to use this thing but all i can find is new stuff. I would really like to have something new but it's not in the budget right now. I know this thing is out dated but it is the first one I have ever had so it is new to me, hopefully something new will be in the budget in a couple of months but for now I would like to learn what I have.

Questions:

1. Where can I find information on older units? (Lowrance website doesn't have a manual fir this thing) I am looking for basic info, I see the screen scrolling form right to left but what does that mean? Is it the same pic moving along, how often does it update, where is the pic coming from, under the boat, beside the boat, back at the dock (lol),

2. Is this thing pretty much useless for anything other than just depth?

3. If you were going to upgrade what would you get and why? (under a grand please) I am a gadget guy and can always find a good reason to buy the latest and greatest if nothing more than because I want to but I really need to keep this to a best bang for the buck kind of deal.

4. When I save enough to upgrade to i have to buy two complete systems? one for the console and one for the front of the boat or do they work together?

5. I would like to get a hands on lesson from anyone willing to show the new guy.

Thanks in advance.

If it shows a bottom line & changes with the depths, it is working to show depth & lumps, humps, or stumps, brush on bottom. The little fish u see are probably some sort of fish, if it has a zoom button, the images will get larger if zoomed in, also bottom will become more prominment and will elevate on screen. Other dark images on screen offbottom will be debri and or bait pods. Menu button, just play it like atoy...turn off to reset, worry not about messing it up. luck........... emoGeezer emoUSA

Thanks for the info and the link. I am sure it is an x-22a but i logged on the link and read the book on the X-25a, it is very similar. Guess I amgoing to have to put down my fishing pole for a few minutes and do like strato g said.

You can get Manuals for outdated units from the link fishingron provided above, i have an Old Lowrance X45 that i still have and i downloaded a manual from the same link he provided above. BTW - if anyone is interested in the X45(Perfect for a pond boat & works perfectly)) i will sell it with Transducer for 50.00-Mo
