What a warm, beautiful day, except for the 30mph wind rippin down the lake. Caught a ton of fish, they only wanted a certain crankbait and grub (stick to your bright colors in muddy water). The warmer next few days should help the bite, especially when the water starts clearing up. Hint.. Hint.. fish close to the bank.

God Bless,

Thanks for the report Brian. I have a friend in Nashville who is in grad school who lives in Madison, and I'm wanting to hit up Old Hickory with him. Do you post regular reports on your website?

Thanks,
Brandon

Brian, man I love fishing Old Hickory. Were you up or down lake or what. I always liked the upper end, the creeks within a few miles of the 231 bridge, and the river too. Great flippin up there. Did you throw the jig any?

Most definately, I write reports for all my fun and business trips. I also post pictures telling people about the "Latest News" with the business and upcoming events. People are starting to check-up on my reports frequently and responded with question and booking information. My goal is to have as many people reading and writing back and forth about Priest, Old Hick. and Center Hill as possible.

On Jan 19th I was fishing mid-lake in the backs of creeks. The water was muddy but clearer near the bank. We fished isolated rocky banks and blowdowns. It was slow in the morning and better as the sun started heating those rocks up.

Interesting report, sound like the fish have settled down into their winter mode...sounds like for those that will be fishing the CFF tournment will want to give this pattern a try :)

Went out with a customer today, caught 7 bass (all of them small), a bunch of skipjacks and white bass. We came in early because it got to cold but had a blast while we were out there. The water temp was 54.

Wow, that seems warm. Where you are fishing isn't influenced by a warm water outflow from a power plant or anything is it? With the warm water like that I can see why the fish are shallow. Are they close to deep water or are they really way back in the creeks? If they are in the creeks do you know what the temp on the main lake is?

Old Hickory's water temps. are weird. In august on the upper end of the lake, in the river you can find temps. still in the 70s, the creeks are alot warmer though, I read that it is because of pulling from deep cool water through Cordell Hull dam. Right now from the steam plant down lake a little ways you find temps. in the 50s, like brian is talking about. You wouldnt think that the warm water discharge from Gallitan steam plant would influence water temps. for so far, but it does.

Yes, I was fishing pretty close to the steam plant. The discharge itself comes into steep banks and then tapers off to the river channel. I like fishing in the plant and down lake a little where the water is still warm.

Yep, I figured that that far north unless the water was warmed by something that the water should be cooler than that. I don't think that Chickamauga has any warm water outflows to fish near by. I think that Sequoyah was made to be very "environment friendly" and the outflow doesn't increase the temp on the surface much. That's great that the fish will stay more active than they would if the water was a bit cooler. It also influences how you fish a winter, prespawn and spawn pattern to some degree doesn't it?
