Looking to buy an onboard charger pretty soon and was wondering if i could get some suggestions on what brand and size to get. I have three batteries that i need to charge.

I have the dual-pro three bank in the Ranger for past 9yrs and never a problem so far,10amps per bank and charges back up real fast, they are great to work with if you need parts or extra wire the owner usually answers the phone.

I too have a Dual Pro 2 bank 10 amp thats at least 15 years and just keeps ticking.... I `d get another one when I need to but I`d get the 15 amp version.

It has been two years and I really love my Min Kota charger. Three banks at ten ampshave been the ticket for me and I follow all the magazine sales so Cabelas was the deal at the time. One thing you need to know and keep track of, check the batteries yearly a low battery will cost you in the field. Once a year I high charge my batteries to clean them(de-suffocation) it will prolong your battery life and will make fishing much more enjoyable.

Ran 15 mins out, came back in 7 hrs 45 mins, finished 11 th in a cff tournament last spring (one battery was a four year old Walmart special). Batteries can and will save you.

Duel Pro 15 amps/bank. Had mine for four years no problem.
Besides if it goes bad just call duel pro and they will ship you a new one, just put the bad one in the box and ship back. They pay shipping.

i dont use a on board trolling batteries are made to run hard and then have a hard charge put back on them i use a 40 amp charger on my batteries and i can use them all day and in the evning have both fully charged in 30min and i charge my cranking every other time i have had my trolling batteries going on four and a half years now

on the duel pro they have the 3 bank 10-15amp, and they also have the charge on the run, whats the difference or are they the same. whats the difference in the 10-15amps. would the 10 be just as good as the 15amp

Don't waist your time on anything less than 3 banks@ 15amps per bank...... you'll be back out fishing while the others are still waiting to charge up !!!!

Other things to consider........This is FYI...........

If you have a mercury 2.0L or 2.5L V-6 with a 40amp system with 2 regulators, you can install a battery isolator and wire it where 20 amps are charging the trolling motor batteries and 20 amps is charging the cranking battery every time you make a run. Mercury had a 9 amp (2.4L&2.0L),16 amp (2.4L&2.0L), and 40 amp (2.5L,2.4L,&2.0L) charging systems so 20 amps is still more than the 2 previous smaller charging systems and this will shorten the amount of time that it take to charge them with a onboard charger and keep them fresher on the water.

The 2.4L version was a single regulator system and was JUNK and VERY expensive. I have converted a few of them to a 9amp system with no battery issues.

On a OMC with a 35amp sytem, you can add a isolator and charge all 3 also, you will only have approx 11.6 amps going to your starting battery and 11.6 amps to each trolling motor battery. But the older charging systems on mercurys and OMC were only 9amp charging systems. Unless you have a TON of electronics. This will work well. I have done this to a 150 Johnson with no battery issues. This will still shorten the time needed to be on the onboard chargers. The mercury is just a better canidate for it due to the split system.

Many people do not realize that the engines charging sytem can be done this way. There are also systems I have heard about that hooks up to the tow vehicles charging system to charge them while being towed to the lake. Some people have to drive great distance to go fishing and can utilize these.

Hope this was useful to someone.emoToast
