If my math is correct, yesterday was my 45th opening day hunt (or near-opening day) since I went on my very first dove hunt. It sort of gets in your blood.
However, sitting in the field yesterday with three good friends, I realized that dove hunting is no longer a competition to see who can kill the most birds with the fewest shots (as it was in my youthful, blood-thirsty days). Now it's all about the company and the joy of the hunt. The kills come second... far second.
