So far there's no fresh meat in the cooler, but I had a rewarding opening weekend.

Saturday I saw 8 deer. Only two in the "red zone" (20 yd. or less), a spotted fawn and a 3-4" spike. Didn't take either shot.

Sunday I saw 3 deer, one was the same spike, and had a big doe that was headed for a hole at 20 yd. She stopped with only her head visible at the hole, with me at full draw. After what seemed 5 minutes my arms were starting to shake, so as I attempted to let off, she spooked and bolted. Shortly after that a yellow-jacket started buzzing my face. I tried to shoo it off and it got me on the cheek right at the edge of my glasses. My right eye is almost swelled shut right now, so I elected to stay in today.

Despite the yellow-jacket incident, I still enjoyed being out there and seeing all of the critters. I'm going in the morning if the swelling goes down a little. emoGoofy

nothing in the frezzer here either..... nothing even see we saw them all over the place before season i guess the deer no when season starts and they hide...... :)

I busted a 2 yr.old 7 pt.saturday morning @ 8:45 seen one other doe.Not bad for opening day.

I was fortunate to eat "fresh" Deer tenderloin Saturday night.
I was planning on attending the picnic and I even passed up a few shots Saturday morning (so I would have time to get to the picnic) however the buddy I was hunting with didn't pass on his opportunity. He killed a decent 6pt (it was his first Buck with a bow). I actually passed on the same buck along with another one which was bigger, plus a spike and does. By the time we found the deer, field dressed it, checked it and cut it up, it was almost 2 o'clock. I was really craving fish and some fellowship but it wasn't meant to be. I had to settle for some grilled tenderloin.
It was a great morning to be in the woods and watch God's creation come to life. The thing I have found so far this year is you need to be in a good stand of Oaks. The deer don't really have to move far right now with all the Oaks dropping. I did find it strange that when the three bucks came in (they were together) I heard the one big one Grunt and he even ran the spike off. They are starting to feel frisky!! None of these bucks had any velvet left. May try to hunt an evening or two this week, depending on the weather.
