I'll lead off by saying it's my fault for taking the cheap way out.
3 yrs ago my comressor failed just a couple months out of warranty-Merc said"sorry" So I tore the thing down and put some bearings in it.
A few months later I was practicing for the CFF Riverpark TX and when I loaded back up at the Pump Storage Sta. I thought I heard a weird noise- barely noticeable. Midday of the TX ka-blewy, it went right around Moc Bend.
Those suckers are around $900 new so I found a couple in a boneyard for a hundred bucks, one worked fine.
Whatever the time frame is from the last River Pk Tx till today-when I put in at Racoon Mtn again to practice. I went to load the boat and damn-do I here a funny noise? Yep! Anyone else had this problem with their Opti's-outside of me buying cheap ones?

Dang Ron I know that sucks, thats the reason I have not went to that motor yet all the stuff you have had with that one makes me hang on to the ol EFI

The compressor is a simple unit-basically a belt driven, one cylinder lawn mower motor. The thing that fails always seems to be the roller bearings on the crank or the connecting rod.
It only has reed valves (like a 2 stroke motor) I'd think a small engine repair guy could find a source for good bearings and maybe do a cylinder honing and a ring job and rebuild these things pretty cheap.
I wonder what high pressure system Yamaha uses. I love my Opti and don't really want to change (can't afford to anyway)
